With one program giving one temperature and another giving a reading 14 degrees higher, which do you trust?

Neither one.

There is a known fault I keep seeing about temp reporting on e8*00's. Not owning one I never really looked at it.

I do know users have returned CPU's with large differences across cores under intel warranty.

There is some other temp program you can use... Give me a while and I'll get back to you...

Edit: Realtemp - here

Cheers

The Sensor test is showing Core 0 Sensor Movement 0 and Core 1 Sensor Movement 3.

This processor is under a D-Tek Fuzion block and I don't have much experience watercooling Intel CPUs but I was getting lower temps on air with my old AMD.

Seems fine to me, not had a 45nm intel but afaik those temps are ok. Google is your friend ;)

Now OC it!

I actually read an article about these proccys and degradation. Go easy on the voltage. Deffo no more than 1.45v, prob 1.4v to be safe...

Quick go with the Asus overclocking tool heralds 3.6Ghz with all settings on auto and a 1:1 with the memory. The program decided I needed 1.32V and with Prime95 running RealTemp reports 46 degrees - not too bad I suppose.

One question though, my RAM is rated 1000Mhz; do you think it would be possible to retain a 1:1 ratio and increase the FSB whilst remaining within the boundaries of the CPU voltage range AND keep it stable?
