Dual x16 SLI or not

Is there any real performance gain for 2x 8800GTS running in 2x16 (two slots at x16) SLI over SLI with 1x16 and 1x8 slot?

I'm trying to decide what motherboard chipset to get (for an Intel E6750 C2D) that will be as 'future proof' as I can get.

I'm thinking 2x16 PCI-E and FSB1333 perhaps with DDR3 support.

I'll be starting with one 8800GTS and perhaps buy another later.

Thoughts?

what size of display will this be on?

if you aren't running 1900x plus then SLI is unnecessary/a waste.

I went through the same thing and from what I found out is its 10% or less of a hit in performance you will get.

Agreed... The gain with 2x16 over 2x8 is nothing to worry about.. If there is a board that tickles ya fancy but the only downer is the 2x8 sli then go for it i'd say.
