Hello, I wanner make a change to my Computer. Acer (-.-) Aspire e500-zb72

So im gonna buy these parts:

Grfx. Nvidia Geforce 8800 Gt

Cpu: Intel C2D Q6600

And 1k ram.

But one of my freinds says i might see if my Motherboard suports Dual core.. so i open Cpuz to try find out, and i just cant find anything on the internet about it.

Motherboard:

Manufactor: Acer (-.-)

Model: Erc410m

Bios: Amarican Megatrands Inc.

Version r02-a0

Hope you guys can support me!

Say if there smore info you need, will try find it then

Which CPU is currently in the computer? There's a good chance that it will not support any of the new C2D processors if it's running an older LGA Pentium 4.

Googling for the model you gave came up with:

http://www.ngohq.com/members/big-adr.html

In the profile info he has the same mobo and a "Pentium 4 524" cpu, checking here:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4

I see that cpu is socket LGA775, which is the correct socket for a C2D... the only question is whether the motherboard bios supports the newer chips.

I think this is the model of PC you have:

http://global.acer.com/products/desktop/apf5.htm

It says "The latest Intel® processors feature dual-core technology for heavy-duty multitasking" but that might not mean you can run C2D. I wonder if emailing them would help...

It's possible you may need A BIOS upgrade to allow the newer chips:

Ive curently got an Celeron (!!!) 3.06 ghz (Cpu-z)

And thanks for the link... i think ill try call them today

My guess is that your computer is not compatible with C2D processors. It more than likely uses an older/less expensive chipset that does not support the new chips.

Hmm its tricky.

Direct question: Is it easy to change motherboard.. i coud i right as good buy a new computer?

If you decide to buy a new PC then if you have the time and inclination I would suggest building your own. If you haven't done it before then once you get some basic advice it's not all that hard and it can be great fun and quite rewarding. All you have to do is take it slow, and ask whenever you're unsure.

You also get the best parts for your money and you know exactly what you're getting and can make choices which will allow an easier/cheaper/better upgrade path in the future i.e. by picking a motherboard with a cpu socket which should be supported for longer, allowing you to upgrade just the cpu for example.

If you want advice on what to get this forum is a great place to ask for advice, just give us a budget and some idea what the main purpose for the machine is ie. is it a gaming rig, if so what games do you want to play and at what detail level (med? high? full?) or is it perhaps a media pc, or maybe you're a graphic designer or record music or ...

As I suspected your chipset doesn't support Core 2's. I'd look at just building a new computer from the ground up using some of the bits from your current computer such as the HD's and optical drives, etc.

Yep, i guees ill have to go buy a new motherboard, grfx, cpu , ram

the Price shoud be at 500-600 euro highest.... Im living in denmark so the prices are a little higher here and we are counting Dkr 1 euro = 7,5 dkr

My Target is World of Warcraft and Jedi knights jedi academy..
