Hi guys ive been using my sony nex5 for a long time now and think its time for a upgrade

looking to buy second hand camera with a lens or two from ebay or similar sites with a budget around £300

What would you guys recommend looking out for around that price point ?

Thanks :)

Canon EOS 550D is an outdated, but still superb Camera and I am pretty sure its much cheaper than £300 now.

Check out reviews and online prices and you may not even need to go via Ebay.

I bought a second hand 500D a few years ago and it's a really nice starter DSLR. I got mine with two lenses, spare battery, SD cards and more for CHF 500.- (a little over 300£). So I'd assume you could now get a decent 550D or 600D that fits your budget.

Honestly, your better off buying new.
Second hand comes with a lot of issues from sensor issues through to motor issues for the shutter.

For around the £300 mark you can pick up a starter DSLR such as the Nikon D3300 or Canon 1200D. Both are a good way into the world of SLR photography.

A very simple way to look at things is that you will get better photos from a cheap body with a good lens than you will from a good body with a poor lens. Lens quality is everything when it comes to good clean sharp photos.

Current "Budget" DSLR's are in fact better than say 5 year old DSLR's that are now selling for around the £200-£300 mark. My camera body cost £900 when released a few years back, yet a modern £400 body is ahead in pretty much all tests.

Definitely not true if you buy it from a reputable retailer. I've only ever bought one camera new and being honest it was ridiculous how badly it depreciated. It cost me £980 and is now worth less than £50. Digital technology improves so much, there are new models out nearly every year. Lenses are also fine used, buy a quality lens and it'll outlive the camera. A good lens is for life.

Somewhere like MPB or WEX are ideal as you get a year warranty on all used equipment and prices are fairly competitive. If you already have a lens or two that is good for your NEX, you can pick up a new model like a NEX-7 or A6000 within your budget. Getting a body and decent lenses for £300 is pushing the boat out a bit.

How many lenses do you have already for your Nex5? If I'm right that's E-mount system so I'd recommend a A6000 new or second hand and you can use your existing lenses.

I recently bought an A6000 and a few lenses and it's great.

I would reconsider your thoughts on DSLR unless your spending a lot more than £300, or don't want any lenses with it :).
