DOOM will run at 1080p and 60 FPS on Consoles and idTech want this to be the best looking game at 1080p 60FPS on consoles. Why is this great for PC?

If the engine used is anything like idTechs last few games the detail tends to look like oil paints thrown at a wall from close proximity ^_^

I'm really looking forward to this one and it'll maybe be a day 1 buy but this whole 60 FPS crap is getting old. Maybe it's my fault because I bought a $500 144 Hz monitor last year and that's about the time everything new coming out seemed to be capped at 60 FPS. Either way, I don't understand why developers are capping their games like this.

Usually to do with physics in games going nuts over 60FPS, Skyrims a good example of that.

Ah, ok. I never thought of that. I still hate that they dont figure a way around it. Im sure there are a lot of us PC gamers that are rolling high refresh rate monitors. I would think the manufacturer's would be lobbying for this as well. If Im capped at 60 fps then whats the point of buying one of the new fancy high refresh rate monitors by Asus or upgrading my GPU? I know Im preaching to the choir here but Im still bothered by this trend.

Hmm not really. Most games (if they can) will run physics twice the frame rate of the game (120Hz in this case). Some games (such as racing or physics sandboxes) run even higher. A well architectured game can deal with any frame rate. However, consoles are capped at 60Hz because it's a common TV refresh rate, to stop tearing and any higher is usually not achievable or beneficial.

I was fortunate enough to win a G2A gift card from Sapphire. Since it was not real money out of my pocket, I preordered. I can't wait to play.

Unlock Skyrims FPS cap, Go over 60 and the physics go nuts, Not forgetting to mention that many audio problems are also introduced with the water making some odd sounds.

Skyrim does have it's problems if you're only playing Vanilla, That is another reason why a lot of people Mod Skyrim to fix the problems that happen in Vanilla ;)

I've currently got around 100 mods in Skyrim and nothing stops the physics from going nuts once I go over 60FPS so I just lock it to 59 ^_^

That's just Skyrim's design though, not an industry standard.
