Hey all...
You can see in my pc stats, i'm running 8GIG GSkill 1600 CL7.
My thing is, does it really matter what ram i buy for my AMD 965BE?
I really want to get the new Vengeance 1866 16GB set but it says Intel, will it be a problem???
It'll be absolutely fine - it doesn't matter if it says Intel at all.
Bear in mind though, you may as well just save money and get the 1600mhz kit as you won't get the RAM stable at 1866mhz with a Phenom 965 anyway. Phenoms struggle even at 1600mhz a lot of the time.
there are few "intel ram" the only thing they differ in is that they are designed to be used with intel mobo features like XDR. but it would still work fine with amd
as said old gen amd dont handle high ram frequencies very well i wouldnt go with more then 1600 on it, you can always turn it down but then whats the point.
also did you try unlocking your cpu? my 550be unlocked and oc'd to 3.7 24/7 stable
Try to higher the voltage a bit the CPU should be able to handle 3.8 GHz tbh.I have tried unlocking a bit, @ 3.7 it's stable, @ 3.8 it crashes once in a while...
Will give it a go. ThxTry to higher the voltage a bit the CPU should be able to handle 3.8 GHz tbh.
The only thing you may find is your AMD might not go as quick as 1866.
Thats nothing to do with the ram though, youll just have to see how fast yours will go up too![]()
I am happy with mine, i just find it lagging a bit and want to get it to perform at peak. When i actually have spare cash i will be upgrading bit by bit...Don't knock AMD, it's possible to build very nice gaming rigs; they also make very decent rendering rigs too.
It's about what you want your computer for, what its main purpose will be.
Once you've determined that, then put together a rig.
You really think the 860 won't be enough?Yeh, but for rendering, my 920 i7 would be awesome for some time yet, but I could get a serious performance improvement with a better rig, so once Haswell is released I'll be finally 'biting-the-bullet'.
I've bought a case and a new PSU so far. Both were needed.
Lian Li V2120a and an AX 860i; if the PSU isn't beefy enough, then I can always use the 1200w I already have, but if not the 860 will save me a fair bit of electric over the years I have it. It's really quiet too. No fan noise during most of its use.
I only know a little about rendering and stuff like that. Used to Coreldraw and the simple types ^_^Depends what you need it for.
Some of the renders I do take many hours. I could reduce that by 50% or so with an up to date system; a dual xeon would cut more time off, but the cost /shudder.
Of course, gpus are used to render, but then there can be insufficient memory for the scene and it requires messing about; render farms also offer an alternative - depends on needs and available cash.![]()
