Dodgy psu?

I have jump started my psu and measured the rails(albeit with no load) and they are fine,maybe a slight cause for concern is the 3.3v rail@3.47v which is the max atx spec i believe.

I have noticed a high pitched buzz(but it kinda sounds like a steady beep with a bit of buzz its a bit hard to describe) coming from the unit,i also noticed the rear 80mm fan seems dead,it doesnt spin by itself but if you give it a nudge it will spin but very weak

now whether or not this is just the power flowing through,a side effect of jump starting or the makings of a component killer i dont know lol

ideas anyone?

i am thinking of giving hiper a ring and seeing if i can get an rma(i have no receipt tho),anyone have any experience with hipers rma service?

No experience with hiper rma but the unit sounds fooked. Dodgy fan and buzzing = not good

That is what I was thinking.. maybe the fans kicks in when it figures how much it has plugged in.

yea fans require above a certain amount of voltage to nudge them over to the next magnet. If it is controlled by a thermistor it may be getting enough voltage to keep it spinning but not enough to start up.... If you get me?

I would say use a cardboard tube to try pinpoint the exact location of the buzzing but that would involve opening the PSU and voiding warranty.

its nearly 3yrs old i think and the fans turn on with the unit

the 80mm only ever stops when the psu is shut down but it spins for a while after to cool it some more.

yea i get you,i would have thought it is getting enough volts tho

i am just reluctant to plug in my new hardware and i dont have an 80mm fan slim enough to replace the psu one and i dont fancy opening it up anyway...yet
