The problem : Server always hang on windows logo screen at setup when HOSTRAID is enabled, We try safe mode: it hangs with a dark screen.

2 x 512 Mb RAM ECC Reg 333 (KINGSTON)

1 Hard drive MAXTOR 200 Gb Sata (BOOT unit) ( installed an Ide hard disk to test the problem continues equally) .

3 x Hard drive MAP3367NP FUJITSU SCSI320 36.74 GB, IDs: 0,1,2

SCSI contoller Settings : DEFAULTS ( tested with other settings and nothing)

BIOS SETTINGS: DEFAULTS

Post dispaly mode on Screen: if unit raid 0 active: OPTIMAL, else: reconized the 3 hard disks all.

is that driver newer than one on cd

other than that i suggest you contact msi direct

as not many users here run things like that

It is very kind of you to have answered my topic.

I have sent mails to msi about this problem and wait for the response, nevertheless on January 14 I also sent two mails asking about memory compatibility , yes i'm wating his answer!, I hope to be lucky this time.

May You post me another mail of support in addition to support@msi.com.tw ? thanks.

The driver of the linkage for which you propose is the same version as that of the cd motherboard,

i have tried another news adaptec drivers ...the ploblem continues.

The quick user's guide mobo in relation to scsi device configuration:

" Packetized: When enabled, this optionis supported by the device drivers. However, [/b]this option is not supported by the bios[/b] " . Please your conments are welcome.

LOOK at THIS please:

SCSI device configuration on Bios:

If I changed Packetized and QAS to "No" on all scsi320 hard disks, Sync transfer rate change itself to 160 MB/seg , the server start up very well and ok, but we got a motherboard and the hard disks to work on SCSI320 not SCSI160.

ahhh The power supply : bequiet! 520 w.yes i sent on my mail to msi.

your help is very apreciate, thanks

thanks

if they work at the lower bus speed though is it really a problem

many users with regular 7200 sata drives and the new sata 150mbs standard

dont seem to realise the drives can only shift data at 1/3 rd the max bus speed

the only data moves close to full bus speed is first 8 mb in drives cache memmory

and the same seems to be the case here

goggle tells me your drives can only do just over 100mbs

so they are not going to trouble a bus working at 160 mbs or 320 mbs

MSI MOBOS

what a good MSI support, I havent received any msi answer, if you are going to get a msi mobo.. think and think. I sent three mails and two forms on the web MSI.

it was our first msi motherboard and last one. I seriously recommend you no get MSI products, if you have an important and difficult problem ... you are going to cry. We had got TYAN and ASUS they both support their products.

Re: E7320 MASTER-S SCSI

So why not call your local MSI office. Crying here isn't going to help. We only get a few posts a year from people who have purchased server boards, so your not likely to get any help.

How to contact MSI.

I thank your VERY KIND answer, but you did not know i called germany msi branch, because the morbo was got there and... any answer. it's no my business if msi sell one 7320-S or millions, when a person get a motnerboard the msi HAVE to support the product. if MSI is not able...maybe msi could sell other products... potatoes or perfums but no server motherboards.

Kay. about 7 Hours later. I'm not too happy with MSI.

Buildin a PC for a friend. it was unstable, ahd a feeling the zalman cooler wasnt making good contact so i told him to install a spare coolermaster to se. board fried. wtf?

and im still unhappy about my K8T Neo, AND their shoddy rma service

and get this

i know somoene who rma'ed shizz through MSI, shipped it (dunno what kind) and is getting it back FedEx Ground. I ship my mobo FedEx Ground, SPECIFICALLY so I get it back FedEx ground, but no they ship it UPS ground which is 5+ days. AHHHHHHH! I FUCKING DESPIZE UPS.

And, Get this. They've had my mobo since thge fucking 17th!

Three months with the problem, any msi answer.

This is only the begin, ill have to get the motherboard out and loose money and time, but your company will losse more.

if you sell a motherboard with scsi320 it must to work to 320 no 160 maximun.

if you can not support the products what you have sold, then sell tomatoes or any simple good but not motherboards servers.

This will be publish in spanish, germany, english and italian web forums.

I'm very tired with this silly proble, with your poor scsi bios. (packetized and QAS) you know that, and you dont answer my mails,

be honest, tell me this bios does not support scsi 360 and ill get a scsi card, but you dont me drive silly.

Yes indeed! ;)

I've used my share of MSI mobo's in the past but when you get two DOA's in a row, that says something about quality control, lol. After that I vowed never to use or support MSI again.

Well one DOA did it for me. It was also the "feel" of the board. It really felt like if I breathed on it it would break. With the DFI it felt solid....built properley. The MSI had some decentish features but when it came to build quality....it was nowhere.

Agreed in the build quality department.

 MSI pepople are nerveous and this person too much because they know that the people are realizing that support MSI for the goods they sell is very bad.

some people behave like a little Hitlers When they are nervous .

My campaign just has begun, now i sent a few mails to msi sellers, and this topic only is on 2 forums, Ive stopped a moment because Holland brunch MSI has sent a mail with a answer yestarday... three months after i have been mailing to msi, but no one solution, and today one mail from tw without one technical aspect.... yes after a lot of pressure.

thanks

Finally (after about 3 months) somebody of msi

:nono: these mails are the last , finally (after about 3 months) somebody of msi interesed to support msi products but any clue to solve it

To: msi-info@msi-computer.nl

Because i have not received your answer mail and you are of support MSI I suppose you know a lot about disks and raids, i'm sorry to tell you what you know :

You have told : "Only the interface is 320MB/s, the disks cannot reach this kind of performance, even with 3 disks in (soft) Raid 0, the performance would be probably around 3x 40MB/s = 120MB/s"

I think you have tested the "END" or inner tracks array, you have measured half the speed as the outer tracks, so you may find the performance on each HD is 40MB/s.

Data transfer rate MAP3367NP (theorical): 64.1 to 107.86 MB/s (for inner to outer tracks)

(unbuffered sequential read transfers) Raid0 with 3 HD MAP3367NP,NTFS

outer tracks:Transfer about at least =107.86 *3* 0.666= 215.72 MB/seg

inner tracks:Transfer about at least =64.1 *3* 0.666 = 128.2 MB/seg

to test max transfer we have red on outer tracks.

1.- Where did you find the 159 MB/sec Read performance

1.1 sissoftsandra

1.2 win32 api ReadFile with FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED,

FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING secuential read, continues

2.-Is the SCSI Interface speed reported in the SCSI bios 320?

Yes sure...please

3.-How did you create the RAID configuration

using scsi bios and other times using HostRaid

4.- Do you use a ZCR

no, its no necessary to raid0, but it increase process performance

5.- Does the same happen with other Ultra320 hdd's???

yes tested with 3 maxtor scsi320

6.- you: "Only the interface is 320MB/s, the disks can not reach this kind of

performance, even with 3 disks in (soft) Raid 0, the performance

would be probably around 3x 40MB/s = 120MB/s."

you are wrong, and you know that, please this is not our first scsi320

server.maximun each disk about 90 MB/seg, yes i know secuential ideal

without zero chanel : more or less 220 MB/seg in this system (3 disks

Raid0 ) without cache, secuential and continuos read.

7.- Did you try bios version v1.26?

I think v.26 only Add Irwindale XEON CPU support, if it Adds better

scsi bios please tell me.

I do have one question about this issue: Where did you find the 159 MB/sec

Read performance?????

Is the SCSI Interface speed reported in the SCSI bios 320???? How did you create the RAID configuration? Do you use a ZCR???

Does the same happen with other Ultra320 hdd's???

You can find a list of hardware which has been tested witht his motherboard:

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produ...ro_svr_rcm.php? UID=605

Only the interface is 320MB/s, the disks cannot reach this kind of

performance, even with 3 disks in (soft) Raid 0, the performance would be

probably around 3x 40MB/s = 120MB/s.

Did you try bios version v1.26:
