Hello

I'm going to rebuild an old PC but have a few questions. Hope you can help please.

My current PC's motherboard, intel pentium IV cpu and memory are in need of an upgrade so i'm changing these components to an amd motherboard, athlon x2 3800 wth 1GB of DDR2 ram.

If I change these parts, can I just use my existing hard drive which has win xp pro on it or will it cause a problem and need to be reformatted first then xp reinstalled? I have heard people have done this but i've also heard it is not considered "best practice" because it could cause it to blue screen as it will at first remember the old motherboard/cpu settings?

best to re-install in that scenario going from intel to amd lots of things different. But as a rule of thumb I always re-install after changing mobo's even if its the same chipset as drivers from one manufacturer to another may have little perks

Don't turn over to the dark side!!!
