DiRT Showdown - Thoughts?

So the DiRT Showdown Demo has been released and i was wondering what you guys think of the game. Personally, i don't like it. I've grown up with Codemasters' (the dev team behind DiRT) rally and racing games of old, such as the TOCA series and Colin McRae rally series, both of which were much more simulator than arcade racer that's for sure, but both were insanely fun. However, Since DiRT 2 Codemasters has been going for a more 'Arcade & Simulator all in one' type feel, nothing wrong with that. But since this new approach their games have felt a tad repetitive and when i played them i got bored after a while, but their games before that i play for ages and ages. However, i still very much enjoyed DiRT 2 & 3 (3 more than 2), they were great games. Showdown however, is just what i was fearing would eventually happen to the DiRT series. They have gradually been edging away from a Rally type game and going more and more for an Arcade Racing game with random game modes. It's hard for me to explain, but basically i feel Codemasters is taking the wrong direction on this. Sure there's people out there who are gonna love this game (fair enough), but for the hardcore Codemasters fans like me, the majority of us are fans because of their Rally and Racing Games of the past, Now they're taking the arcade route i fear their games will become very dull after a short period of time, which would be a shame especially seeing as they're a great game developer.

What do you guys think? Post below your thoughts and opinions on the game

Reminds me of Destruction Derby for PS1, obviously with some vast graphical improvements. Going to wait for the demo before i purchase it though

The only driving games I have really liked is the Grand Tourismo series, all the cars handled differently and there was skill involved in learning each car and getting it set up right. The only downside is it's not as fun as DIRT, if they mixed the simulation part of GT, and the fun part of DIRT together, then that would be a driving game i'd like to play.

My favourite racing series is Gran Turismo, i've owned every single GT game apart from the PSP version and i loved every one of them. I probably need to get a racing wheel when GT6 comes out, would be a lot more fun.

But anyway... gotta agree with you here. GT seems to last a very long time with me before i get bored, but it would be a lot more fun in the short and long term if the fun of DiRT was somehow implemented into GT. The short term fun factor of DiRT and other Codemasters games is something they get absolutely spot on

Gran Turismo fan here, will always remain my number 1 favourite racing series :)

I do play others like Dirt3 now and again but get bored easily than GT which i can play for hours.

They killed with Dirt Showdown, played the demo and i'd say i don't like it for some reason. I enjoy Flatout Ultimate Carnage more

Gran Tourismo fan of old, i remeber spending days playing the endurance racing with a friend of mine taking it in "shifts" so to speak, even at the age of 14 lol

Just need to start all over again on GT5 due to my data becoming corrupted:mad:

But back to dirt, not really got on with any of them, just didnt seam realistic enough for me to enjoy
