First off, my specs;

XP Pro, SP2

ASUS P4S8X

(BIOS (Award Software) -

version; ASUS P4S8X ACPI BIOS Revision 1004)

SiS® 648 North Bridge / SiS® 963 South Bridge

P4 2.4 GHz

1.5 GB RAM (3x512)

120 GB HD

ATI Raeon HD 2600 XT AGP (512 MB)

(Catalyst® Version 8.41 RC3, Aug 20, 2007)

M-Audio Delta 44

450w PS

I recently had a nvidia card (geForce 7600 maybe?), kept it 24 hours, and returned it. I couldn't get it running at all. Crashed my system.

I replaced it with the Radeon HD 2600 XT, currently in my system. It's having problems running 3D graphics. It seems to handle everything well enough (i.e. I do fairly intensive video editing and such without issues).

I used DriverCleaner after uninstalling drivers each time before an install of new ones.

I updated the SIS AGP drivers for my board.

I obtained the latest drivers from ATI, then the card manufacturer, and then Omega, each time uninstalling the last, and using Driver Cleaner.

Same results with all versions I tried - bad. The graphics in 'Oblivion' are blocky, discolored, and have odd repetition of images throughout.

I ran dxdiag and it failed on hardware acceleration - specifically, "Hardware accelerated Direct3D 8 and 9 interfaces". The repetition of images that occurred in the game also showed up on the side of the 'spinning cube' in the test. (image examples included)

I've run every diagnostic and benchmark utility I can find, and specs regarding speeds, voltages, temps all seem to be ok. ????

I have hit the wall. I've no clue what to try next. Any suggestions would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks.

and the dxdiag cube showing the same repeated image symptoms;

I wonder if this has anything to do with the power not being enough for the gfxcard slot.

Seen a fair few P4 style mobos with warning labels on them about sticking in gfxcards that use over "1.35v" or similar.

Thinking about the 7600, I think they were all 1.5v cards - so that atleast would be correct. Dunno about the Ati.

Sounds like a mobo problem or a overheating/driver issue, but if its happening to two diff cards ide bet on mobo. As Rast said.

i know its a bit late for a reply but this is for anyone else reading with the same problems with the radeon 2600 agp cards those wonderful guys over at ATI cannot be bothered supporting agp cards anymore and all the problems are software and direct x 9 issues, anyway omega did what ati could not be bothered doing and fixed the whole software heres the free download link
