Sorry if this is a dumb question but other then the Matx whats the difference between the rampage IV extreme and Gene as ive just bought a second hand system on ebay and its a Rampage Gene I only ask as the system is quite heavy on spec in regards to other components like the 3970x cpu and I wouldnt want a mobo that gonna hold it all back.

The motherboard will be fine.
It's still a good board, just in mATX form.
Other than the feature list displayed on Asus's website, the only differences not mentioned would be the number of power phases around the CPU socket, so it may not overclock quite as well as the R4E, but it should still perform well.

Just to expand on what jamesriley said, the VRM design of the board is very similar to the R4E, with the only difference being that there less MOSFET's used. Number of phases, and all other components are actually identical though, so I don't think overclocking potential would really be that much worse.
