DICE Sacrificed Resolution for higher framerate in Star Wars Battlefront

Doesn't surprise me, It's going to get more problematic for devs in the next 2 years or so as graphics get better and the consoles are going to struggle to even get 30FPS at 720P.

And this is why PC gaming has made a major comeback, both "next gen" consoles were made with hardware that was readily available and slow in comparison to where they should have been.

Would have been good if they went with fully custom like the 7th gen as they really were powerhouses at the time even compared to a decent rig.

This is a smart decision.

A lot of console gamers play from a distance where they can't really see the difference between 720p and 1080p, but you can always tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps.

This man gets it.

There is also a huge market of younger players on console, sat in their bedrooms with low quality TV's. They also won't see the difference.

I've been playing the beta on xbone and thought it looked great. I could tell it was higher than 30fps instantly but didn't realise it was upscaled 720p until I read about it online. I do have bad eyes though lol

resolution matters less the smaller your screen i find.
and even a 52 inch tv from across the room dont look that terrible even at 480p
having said that 720p is about where consoles should be. and 60fps is a must. so it seems ok.
the only time i worry about this stuff is when ubisoft comes out with words like "cinematic" and "parity" and then i know they well shaft us on the pc release.

At launch consoles are always pretty darn good to handle everything available at the time, unfortunately the SDKs aren't mature so they never can get the most out of them. As time goes on and everything increases rapidly it leaves the consoles in the dust within 3 years and you have all sorts of games playing at different framerates and etc. I say after about 3/4 years and the SDKs really mature, they kinda just flatline at a certain level for resolution/framerate/fidelity excluding exclusive games as they tend to run better than AAA games for obvious reasons. But with how fast it's progressing now in the industry.. they probably already flatlined. However with all that said, 900p to 1080p for the PS4 is hardly a difference anyone will notice. 720p however is very noticeable drop.
