Okay guys,

Looking for choices here which would you choose or which one have you had the best success with?

Legendary BH5 or the new Voltage friendly VX4000 from OCZ.

Post your results/thoughts/ preference here.

Cheers

Mav

I'm using the same board and I'm going to go for the vx. The reviews are great and you can use the extra voltage the dfi will give (assuming your psu is up to the task). The vx is amazing. Get it now!

Yeah but if you had a choice which one?

Gollem says VX coz I just beat him to some BH5 ;)

Both overclock great at high volts but I haven't seen anyone go head to head to test performance.

Closest I got was anandtech where they say the VX is the NEW BH5, both beat TCCD for tight timings and performance at equal speeds, but no-on says which is best or if indeed there is a winner.

Dazboots has just got some VX and I wait to see his experiences posted, just wandered if anyone else had done the same?

Then there's the rumour that the newer VX4000 is BH5 as the UTT chips were falling yields of appropriate stuff to make the grade.

My PSU is T/TAKE 680w Sli or OCZ Powerstream 520w, both perform the same - ROCK SOLID and ultra quiet.

Although the new 800w unit Phil has listed is a beauty.

Keep posting guys

Thats a good point and one that must be considered when making your purchase, although some BH5 are supplied with lifetime warranty ;)

But from a performance perspective which would you choose?

Keep posting guys.

since u got the bh-5 try it and see what u can get, if its above 260mhz 2-2-2 stable, then i wouldnt bother with the vx. been reading most vx 4000 do around 250-255mhz, if ur lucky 260mhz. if the bh-5 does below 250mhz then get sum vx4000 as they are guaranteed to do at least 250mhz. prob then is that u wont be able to sell ur bh5 for such a high price;)

VX uses unmarked winbond chips so nobody really knows much about them. They are effectively the new bh5 though. Yes It's true you beat me to the bh5 :( which I might have preferred as it clocks a bit higher but in that anandtech review it's claimed that vx running around 260mhz can beat all other modules even at 300mhz!

Gollum,

Don't forget to post your VX results here when you get it, it will be interesting to know how we are all doing on this.

Bad news DFI NF4 lanparty just crashed, support says BIOS corrupted so I gotta send it back or hotflash the BIOS - great.

Hopefully get it all resolved this week so I can then start posting some real reults with the BH5.

Dazboots got 270HTT on his BH5 with same mobo, if I can get 265 2-2-2-8/10 then I wlll be well chuffed.

Cheers

from what iv read, id take a good set of bh5 over the newer VX - utt is too hit and miss afaik, some folks get massive OC's at tight timings from em, whilst others have theirs max out at 2330/230fsb!! I bought a set to try cos I thought my bh5 was stuck at 250, but borrowing some vx from a mate whilst I was waiting for mine to arrive (that in his rig, virtually the same as mine, happily did 265fsb at 3.8v), wouldnt even post with any voltage over 3.4v..so it was my psu/mobo maxing out, not the memory. We did a quick test of my bh5 in his rig the other day whilst I was still waiting to sell it, and we had it stable (albiet not 24hour primed or anything) at 260fsb at 3.5v

and it was only getting started.

Only problem with bh5 as stated is no warranty and no guaranteed OC, although theres no guarantee with 3200vx that youl get anything over 200, and a lot of pc4000VX iv seen doesnt get much over 250/260... but at those speeds they beat tccd at 300....so its all relative I guess.

My VX ram could only do 255 3.4v on the Msi Neo2 board but on the DFI board i can do 262 with only 3.3v.

testing each stick separetely i found that one was holding me back...

I would definetly go with the BH-5

I am currently testing one of my kingston kits......

I stick does 290Mhz 2-2-2-2 with only 3.68V 100% Stable, 6 Hours memtest stable, 3d Stable & SuperPI stable!!! but the other is stuck at 275Mhz 2-2-2-6 but will burn in over weekend....

I must say dual channel gives benches a good boost

Will post some pics later!!!

Cheers

I've got some TCCD at 300HTT 1T, and some TwinMOS speed premium BH5 arriving tomorrow (£92 for 2x512mb! - bargain).

I'll post up some benchies and see which is the better.

Some excellent results there guys.

Living Large - Let me know how you get on with your new RAM. Those clocks are impressive - Most BH5 will do 250-255 but you and Dazboots seem to have found some gold nuggets there.

Does burning in the ram help?

Minstadave - Where did you get that ram from? Do they have any more?

Mav, you had a chance to run my old bh5 thru its paces yet? i know its got a lot to give, just wish id been able to give it the juice to push it myself..

Im still interested in your tccd btw, but as you know my vx buyer let me down, so im still waiting on some cash for em..

Yep just going through some stuff now me old pal - I should have some more positive data later today.

Looking forward to your results Mav mate, im seriously gonna hate my setup if you get awesome results from the ram my system couldnt even cope with! lol - and if they dont do as well as you want, iv still got a new set of OCZ vx you can pick up and put thru its paces ;)
