I reckon the Intel 13K will give the released 7xxx Ryzen's a hard time, pricing and performance (but probably not efficiency wise) and overall platform cost. The 79xx's might be able to stay above the fray compute wise but for gaming and IPC then the 76xx and 77xx have a battle on their hands. The X3D's will come in Jan / Feb and no one will argue about their performance, maybe their cost but not performance.

That's the key thing. What good is a 7800X3D when all you're doing is going from 200 FPS to 240 FPS for significantly higher cost than something like a 12600K? A 7800X3D won't guarantee a similar boost in percentage when going from 80 to 90 FPS, because then you're GPU bound. You'd be better off buying a cheaper CPU and a more expensive GPU.

The 5800X3D still exists. I'd rather pay less for a 5800X3D when they inevitably drop in price than a 7800X3D when I won't actually see that extra performance in most gaming workloads.

The board prices are a joke. Now I do understand why, because PCIE 5 is a bugger and you need lots of layers and etc etc. But exactly what does PCIE5 offer when we have only really just been given PCIE4, which BTW isn't even anywhere close to being maxed out by any GPU. Oh, faster storage? count me in, not.

Honestly this is Ryzen's worst hour IMO. Incredibly disappointing, especially when you know what AMD have and could have done. The thing is? unless you live under a rock you would already know that, so this just smacks of Intel. Oh, and servers etc. Once again, a ton of crap that is really expensive yet absolutely pointless for gamers.

Yet we are being sold it any way. Because they want us to fund their next gen server projects. Yeah, nah. Thanks but nah.

Mr Goldfish. I remember somewhere you said something about it being a 5 year socket. And that Intel was a dead upgrade path. I did see that, but was on holiday on a device that is quite hateful for prodding on, plus I was really busy.

I don't trust AMD. Not any more. In the past they have done crappy things (like say that AM4 wasn't going to support X Y or Z) and then added it after the ensuing uproar, but their biggest slap in the face came with DDR5 only after they lied about it supporting DDR4. Would I trust this company to provide me with 5 years of CPU compat? no. Not any more. And tbh? The last time I upgraded a CPU on the same board was many years ago. Quite simply because it just isn't worth it any more. The CPU space is far less interesting than it used to be, and games just don't warrant it. And the last time I wanted to upgrade AMD priced me out, so I ended up buying an Intel board any way.

Because that's the new AMD. And any time a company starts acting like that I will start avoiding them.

I’m totally with Goldfish here… Everyone knows that perfomance isn’t gradual and hence you won’t get the same performance bump as you’d get with the financial hit.

I just don’t understand why people are so fussed about the new stuff? Hell even Ryzen 3000 still kicks ass and will do for years to come. They won’t just get bad just because new stuff releases. And 5000 will be even better.

Personally for me, I’m on B550 and 3700X, I will most likely just get an 5800X3D in due time and an new GPU once everything new is fully out and have settled. Will probably find a good deal on last gen 3000 from Nvidia or 6000 from AMD. And no, those will not be obsolete just because new stuff comes out.

If the Steam survey are stating that most people are still using GTX 1060’s and 2060’s, I think that even the current gens will kick ass for years to come.

I agree with all of that. CPUs are not all that interesting, and TBH? never really have been. They did get incredibly boring before Ryzen, because Intel were milking it, but the days of people buying absolutely every gen of each CPU are long gone. As soon as AMD stepped back into the arena and started a core war we were then flooded with immense CPUs the likes we had never seen in an ordinary socket before.

As each gen has gone it has become increasingly more pointless to bother. I am still running a 1920x, which is Ryzen gen 1. Sure it isn't great for 1080p or even 1440p so much but I am using it at 4k. So I feel no need to replace it.

I did want to go to AL for gaming (like competitive gaming) and I am glad I did, but god I really don't even want to think about anything else now. I game at 1440p and it is more than fast enough.

As for GPUs? yup, you got that part nailed too. Games just have not moved on, and RTX is completely ignorable and indeed avoidable. The 1080Ti was quite possibly the best GPU ever released, and the best value GPU ever released too. It was years ahead of the curve and can still game perfectly well.

I don't trust AMD either. But that also means I don't trust them to lie. AMD could be lying or could change their tune down the line. But they could also hold true to their word and make AM5 last until 2026. I think it's more likely given what is in AM5 that they will stick to that schedule. There's nothing I know of on the horizon that could change AMD's plan. I do apologise if this annoys you lads on the forum, but I'm trying to stay optimistic about all of this. I just feel happier when I do. Maybe that's not realistic, and that's OK. I just enjoy thinking positively.

You're not alone on this aspect. They did stay true and even over did on their promise regarding AM4. Launched in 2016 and was promised to 2020, they supported it untill even 2022. So historically they atleast have a good track record in my books.
