Decent Low Profile Cooler

Hey guys!

Been a while since I'm hit the forum here but it's nice to be back. :)

Saw Tom's review of the Corsair Carbide Air 240 and I'm really considering upgrading my rig to go in one and have a smaller box on my desk. Here's what I've decided:

CPU: i7 4790K
Mobo: MSI Z97m Gaming
Case: Corsair Carbide Air 240
RAM: for now whatever I've got in my current rig
GPU: Sticking with my GTX670 PE

I'm not looking to OC just yet but I want a third part cooler that would fit in the Air 240 case for a reasonable price. I'd like to stick with air if I can and around the £40-£50 mark.

Thanks in advance! :)

Both REALLY small - The noctua will actually fit the case and out perform both of those

I linked the wrong Scythe cooler. Besides I thought if its a temporary (which it could be!) measure there would be no reason to spend £40 on one anyway. AIO is the way to go with that case imo.

That and I didn't see the noctua cooler :p

or the price tag.

This is the best one Ive had through here and its actually the one I use in my home server.....

Thanks for the quick response Tom, I was thinking about this cooler - didn't realise you'd already done a review! Still don't use it with the 92mm?

I know the 4790k's have had issues with running quite warm, should I have both the 92mm and 120mm fan? I'll be mainly working on high-poly renders and lighting systems in Maya and Nuke.

Thanks for your suggestions and points as well, barnsley. :) I did consider an AIO as well, but if I go back downt he water cooling route again I'll probably do a custom WC rig again.

What about the new Silverstone AR06? Overclockers have them in at £30

No need for the 92mm and it makes it noisey

the 4790k is the cooler one and this will tame it easily, just remember you can manually set the volts to keep temps in check too :)

Looks nice, but I think I'm going to sway with the Noctua. I've got the D14 currently on my i5 rig and can only think highly of it.

Great to hear, thanks for clarifying this Tom! I'll no doubt be back if there are any issues - and rig pics of course! =00=
