Custom water cooling tear down/rebuild

Hi All,

Just got a few questions relating to water cooling teardowns/rebuilds for maintenance purposes;

How far should I go? How can I tell how far I should go?

What I mean by this is, I could replace the hose, open the blocks and clean with a distilled solution, give the rads a good clean out, put everything back together (with new O-rings), then re mount everything and commence refill/bleed. Or, I could simply empty the loop, change the tubes, clean the fins on the rads, refill/bleed and call it a day.

Should I (ever) consider re-using the fluid which i've just pulled out of the system prior to said maintenance? I mean, it's not going to be growing anything in it (distilled water + anti corrosive + anti microbial agent), and it will already be primed for use within the system...

Regards,

Hi
My first question would be: How long has the system been up? and How long do you plan on waiting to do this again? Both ways are options but I usually dont replace everything every taredown. I do flush the radiators, clean the blocks and tubing and replace the coolant because i rather do it once and not wonder if i should have done it if temps start to creep up.
I would personally never reuse coolant. By now it is likely full of ion ( more conductive) and things may be growing in it in spite of the biocide. Also distilled water is cheap.

Good luck.

Hi

I'm planning on doing this approximately once every 12 months. As it stands, the system has only been in the state it is for ~6 months or so, but I am looking ahead and planning the maintenance schedules for it.

So, by that time line, i'm looking at maintenance in ~March/April next year.

I would say giveif your gonna do it you may as well do it properly and just change out the fluid and flush the system completely

For 6 months of use all that would be needed would be to flush and change the coolant but if you plan on having it up for 1 year ( i do the same) i would go ahead and open up the blocks and clean them as well as flush the radiators. That way you are sure they are fine and you can inspect for corrosion, especially if you have mixed metals. I usually change the tubing every other maintenance (so every 2 years aprox).
