CS Settings

Morning guys,

Quick question. I've decided to make my CS look a bit more fancy, so I looked at turning up some of my settings. However, I'm a bit confussed. Can you tell me:

1. What anti aliasing actually does? Is it worth it because from what I can see, it doesn't look any different. Also does it rape FPS?

2. What does anisotropic filtering do? Again I can't see a difference with it turned up or down.

I've put my settings to all high and reflect all and it does look good, plus my res up to 1600x1200 and the gaming experience is much better :yumyum:

Just wondered what settings you chappies used and if you could explain the benefits of running the above settings at higher levels?

Ta :D

anti aliasing gets rid of the jagged edges, particularly noticeable on the edges of walls and stuff at lower res. anisotropic filtering basically provides higher clarity at long ranges

depends on what gfx card you have i run a 7900 Gto @

1280x960

AA 2x

AF 4x

all other settings on high

usualy get a stable 80fps

Draw a line i paint the way it makes the line by a series of smaller lines is how AA works the higher the AA the less noticible the jaged edges become

Note that applying AA onto a game will mean a drop in FPS. 2 x AA is usually ok for that card at that res, but 4 x AA and above will drop them by quite a bit.

I turn on HDR but infrequently play maps with HDR

Can't remember what I use off the top of my head, but I've got an X1950 Pro card atm.

What do you reckon I should be using in terms of settings then?

What ever you feel comfortable with tbh :)

AS long as the fps stays above 70 then go as high as you want. I know I would!

To be honest I would say thet should run CS:S at max... my old 6800 did?

Arnt Radeons better at AA and AF, as in less performance drop?

I find that the difference between no AA and 2xAA is big, but theres little difference between 2xAA and 4xAA; so 2xAA FTW.

As for AF I have 2x as id rather have the fps then the higher clarity at long range.

Thats the most important thing ^^

@ Jiffz sort out ur avitar!!!!

Woops I thought my PC was playing up and I cleared the cache and everything! Sorry about that people, noob playing with his profile options :)

Yeah 2x AA is much better than nothing and 4x AA doesn't do THAT much more, but still increases strain on the PC a fair amount.

Cool thanks for the feedback :D

I did try and turn everything up and I was getting a good 70fps.

However, if I use the following, I get a solid 101 FPS (capped in line with In/Out KB/S):

Res: 1600x1200

Textures - All on High + Reflect All

4x AF (for clarity)

2x AA

Ummm yep it is :(

That's why I need to get a new one for when I move because I don't think I'm going to get it onto these smaller type desks :(
