im just installing counterstrike again and i dont want to go through the updates again, does anyone know what file i will need to copy from my other, upto date pc and where i will need to copy it to?

I'd just copy your whole cstrike folder from the updated box to the outdated box. I don't think its just one file that handles all of the updates.

You can use the backup utility in Steam, which creates an EXE that you run to install insead of using the disk. However, keep a copy of custom maps and saves just in case.

you need to copy all teh gcf files from, steamapps, this keeps the game files, cstrike keeps maps/skins/sounds etc

Yeah, when I did the steam back up, it didn't back up patched stuff, or any custom maps or sounds.

Make sure you do that manually.

Iv concluded that steam sucks major balls (not related to this thread starter) The update recently dropped all my FPS and failed to send me the entire militia map, im missing half the textures and models. I copied and pasted Hams updated .GCF files over mine, and it worked, but then when i logged out of steam it wouldnt start back up again

Try validating you steam files mate. Thats what I did and got it all working again
