What's your opinion?

I am going to assume OC'ability is exactly the same between the two boards? Same NB, same basic design, same power setup?

Sabertooth Advantage:

-Price

-1 more SATA port than Crosshair V

Crosshair Advantage:

-X-Fi Audio

-ROG Connect

What say the people?

Q: do you already have a sound card?

A: that should answer the main OP

I do not, however I've never had an issue with generic onboard audio. Granted the last sound card I owned was an audiophile grade BlueGears card (Auzentech now I believe) just for listening to my music and damn was that card one crisp and clear bugger. Is the onboard X-Fi really that much better? Comparable to a PCI X-Fi card?

i would not know, as the only onboard sound i have ever used is realtek.

i would expect the onboard X-Fi to be on par.

the BIG plus for the onboard X-Fi is:

  1. freeing up the PCI lanes for SLI/CFx
  2. fixes not been able to fit a sound card cos of heat/airflow issues.
  3. some triple bay gfx cards overlap the unused PCI slots.

I would honestly go with the Sabertooh 990fx (oh wait, I did go with that). Its an awesome board, 4.2 stable easy with my 1090T. If you want aesthetics then I would go with the Crosshair, but if you don't care about a red/black design I would for sure go with Sabertooth.

both are equally awesome boards I would go sabertooth as imho the red black is over done. well 4 me at least lol.

Looking at the Crosshair V, it has 1 x 8 pin power, 1 x 4 pin power, and 1 x 4 pin molex power connector. Do ALL of these need to be connected???

they need it if your pushing the pci-e lanes with more than 2 gpu's otherwise no real need to put them on

i would plug everything in - the mobo will only draw the power it needs, but better safe than sorry

only issue with that is cable management (unless they moved the molex to a better spot) it runs into the middle of the board lmao who wants a cable there

Question have you looked at the UD7 as its a hell of a board as well and the all black is really nice, however it looks to be the highest price.

Between the sabretooth and crosshair though it would be how many pci-e slots are you going to use? The Sabretooth has a 5 year warranty which is really nice opposed to a 3 year for the CV. The CV does have more usb 3 options though and Power/Reset/O.C buttons on the board which is kind of nice i guess.

Once you use the 5 year warranty on the Sabertooth you only have a 14 day warranty after that.

Between the two the sabertooth is the best imo. With the multiple temp sensors throughout the board and everything. Only downside is Realtek Audio and Ethernet, so I hope you have no plans to play battlefield bad company 2 unless you get a new sound card and NIC.
