Crossfire - Not as good as we thought?

Pre-release board and drivers so still plenty of room for improvement.

Plus the 7800GTX is a new generation card so its unfair to compare x850 with 7800 technology....

I agree, but you have to pitch it against whats out there now - R520 is delayed until at least October - thats official (Mav told you first).

It's pre-release stuff and there's plenty of development work to be done before it's released in around 2 weeks time (paper release I suspect).

It's not something to rave about either though - I think we can say at best this will provide the competition this market sector needs - it's certainly not the automatic choice for this genre.....yet?

The unfortuante thing with all these delays is that we are now coming into a market saturated by Nvidia cards and motherboards, the healthy competition we need to keep such markets competitive are conspicuous by there abscence - THIS IS NOT GOOD NEWS FOR THE CONSUMER!!

hmmm, I was expecting the crossfire in sli to do a bit better than that! Nemind, better luck in October :D

TBH i wasn't expecting much, and i don't see the point in SLI, crossfire. You are never going to get double the perfrmance, yet you are paying for double the video cards.

Whatever SLI/crossfire can do a Flagship single card can do as well.

i did as expected on 3dmark05 with no aa/af which is the just slightly faster than the ultras out the box so should just edge past in crossfire (which it didnt) but it did in multi vpu mode...

and the test with 16x af, why did the use 6xaa for the atis and 4xaa for both nvidias even thier 7800gtx... surely it be fairer and much more closely matched has they both been the same for both cards...

but either way its just levelling the playing fields with both companies with the tech to do it... however as nvidia now have a competitor in the sector we should hopefully see better game support, better drivers etc...

Yeah, also the preview is pretty short, and basically tells us nothing of crossfire.

You can't judge your opinions on it from anything we have seen so far.

id rather ATI shelved Crossfire, and concentrated on the r520 in making it awesome. if it came out with 32 pipes, 10 vertex shaders, wicked clocks, HDR and PS3.0 capable, it would slaughter nvidia.

It's all good to me, we need to competition to drive the prices down to a more affordable level.

SLI or crossfire is not everyones cup of tea I grant you, were at now at the limit of our CPU's until the physics chip comes out or programs are optimised for dual core - 32 pipe nvidia or ATI cards will not have nuch impact on we is avialble to us today until this happens.

For now 7800SLI rules the Galaxy.
