Creating an account specified for gaming

Is there a way in XP to create an account for gaming (less services and only critical programs to start up) then have the other one for folding running constantly (i find folding lowers fps which is not good for games such as stalker etc.)

So

One account: Standard use, folding as a service and not designed for gaming

Other account: Specifically for gaming with only antivirus and xfire running (pretty much)

Thanks <3

I`m not entirely sure how u`d do that on XP @ home.

What I`d be tempted to do as an experiment, would be to make another account (the gaming one), then use something like HJT to stop services etc on that account - however I`m pretty sure that the startup will be the same for all accounts.

Some1 being clever could run up a login script to take the service startups from XP into something like a bat file and only execute the extra ones on the one users` login.

hmmm.

All I was doing ages ago before I upgraded was have 2 hdd's with XP on. One had the full microsoft .NET development suite + apache + SQL + Office etc and the Second had a minimal install of XP with AV for gaming.

I have my .NET + Word stuff on Parallels now thru OSX

The only thing I have in the bg on my current XP setup is antivirus + driver stuff.

I just start the apache + SQL services when I need them.

I only have 2x 320gb in Raid0 and I ain't using my 200gb external as thats for backups.

Well is it possible to make a partition on an already raided setup? Although the user accounts sounds easier as I could switch without changing booted OS. Rast's idea looks good but i know feck all about scripting although I have used batch files before.

i saw a script somewhere a while ago which basically disabled everything but the most critical services and was designed for optimum gaming

but ive just sat here for 5 minutes trying to remember whr i saw it, and i plain cant remember

sorry dude

Or.. you could go Windows Server 2003.. which is a uber stripped version of XP! :)

I did. and there is no looking back!

I think Joe might have done one on here :\

i have like 40 processes and if i remove some and go down to 25, i really cant notice the diff. my friend has a C2D lappy with 7900gs and he has 70+ processes, and he doesnt stutter once

Should always work off copies :p Keep u`r originals safely safety safe somewhere. (not ontop of a radiator or anything)

Im about to install server 2003 onto my external - I suppose i could then use this is my "gaming account" but I do need to backup onto it so I wont be installing most of my games :(

If i switched my main 640gb hdd setup onto 2k3 would i be able to setup two account properly?

I would die if I was running on that!

I run at 18 processes. Good bit of tweaking got me there.

And I can always feel a slow down! :eh:
