CPU-Z Problems?

Hi guys,

I am trying to overclock my 4790k however, in CPU-Z I am getting different speeds compared to say the ASUS AI Suite 3, in CPU-z I am getting 4.6Ghz - 4.7Ghz depending on whether the bus speed is flickering up or down, in AI Suite 3 I am getting 4.8Ghz and then 4.9Ghz in Intel Extreme tuning...

anyway all I have changed thus far is set the voltage to 1.25, set the multiplier to 48 and I thought bus speed was set to 100Mhz but CPU-Z keeps telling me otherwise and its always lower...

Does anyone have any clue what is going on? or is this completely normal? Thanks in advance for any replies, I really appreciate it!

Regards, Jasper!

I had the same problem. CPU-Z was showing 4700 and AI was showing 4800. The reason, I found, was I had EPU enabled so I think it confused CPU-Z. I would just listen to AI as it comes bundled with your mobo.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help, yeah it is acting strangely, it says my CPU is getting 0.9v at 4.8Ghz which is obviously incorrect otherwise I would have the most efficient 4790k on the planet...

Does it show 0.9v during an Intel Burn test as well?

You should have posted screenshots - it just sounds like speedstep or eist is on - also aslong as its like 4798 mhz then thats still technically 4.8ghz its just programs reading things a few tenths of a mhz wrong

Yeah I understand that it may be a few tenths out but with all different software I was getting a different reading of around 0.3Ghz depending on which I used all because it was reading my CPU BLK speed wrong, which was set to 100Mhz in the Asus ROG BIOS but saying 95 in CPU-Z and 125 in IET then in AI SUITE 3 it was reading correctly.

When I get home on Monday I will upload some screenies for you guys if you are interested but I am home from uni at the moment so not at my desk! Thanks for all the replies though I really appreciate the help!

We are interested indeed please do get the screen shots up and we'll see in more detail. ;)

Alright so I managed to find a thread online that said the issue was to do with a feature called Hyper-V in Windows 8 and above. After turning the feature off CPU-Z is reading speeds correctly! If any of you have the same problem here is the solution!
