CPU temp & speed problems

Hello everyone,

My first time on this forum and I hope someone could help me with a problem I have since a few days.

Since a few days my PC decided to run hotter than in normally does. So I started to check te temperatures regularly. I also noticed that some of the core speeds varied while gaming.

I have no idea what the problem is. My CPU used to run at 3.8ghz (Core i5 750). If you need more information please let me know and I hope someone can help me solve the issue(s) :)

Have you checked your CPU cooler is clean and working properly? Take it off, clean out any dust, clean off the old thermal paste and remount with fresh paste. See if that helps.

I did that yesterday. Cleaned all the fans, radiator (corsair h55), gpu and psu. Did not help eventually.

Well looking at the pictures you have gone from a modest 3.4GHZ on all cores to over 8GHZ on a single core and over 7GHZ on another core these speeds would almost certainly be the cause of the overheating you say, as to the reason why the cpu is nowrunning at quite frankly scary speeds i could not say other than the bios settings have been changed in some way, overclocked would be my best answer. try resetting your bios options to normal.

So what could it be? PSU or Motherboard? I have tried to fixate the voltages and I have also tried it with voltages on auto. Both give the fluxuations. :/

A few days ago I installed a fresh copy of windows trying to eliminate software issues if there were any. Guess that was not a problem.

It all depends if said software is kooky, dude.

Some of the apps I used to use would get certain temps correct but give ridiculous readings on others.

I can thoroughly recommend NZXT's CAM. It's the only monitoring app that I've used that pretty much gets it all right and has some other nice features to boot.

So tried out NZXT Cam software on my desktop and laptop. Bloody awful. Deleted it within 5 minutes, why, because while it was running it actually raised the temperature of both my pc's by 15C. I deleted it and temps immediately dropped back to normal.
