hi guys

i turned on my computer this morning and noticed that realtemp was giving Extraordinarily high temperatures (70-90c at 25% load) I then checked my ASUS software which gives CPU temps and in the bios all temps are high. I am running a e8400 @ 3ghz on the stock cooler can someone please tell me how to fix it?

Things ive Tried

I have removed and reinstalled the CPU fan but it made no difference.

is the heatsink hot to the touch

if it isnt it may be a faulty sensor

also when its been off and you boot up into the bios is the temp high straight away after booting

the heatsink is warm but not hot and yes the temps are high as soon as it boots to bios usually start around 60c works it way upto 80+ almost instantly

I would verify that all four push pins are properly inserted and locked in place. It sounds to me like one may have let loose.

how old is the e8400 chip? i had one of the first batches of the wolfdale cores and i had a fluncked sensor soo this could easily be your case. another way of testing is too buy another cpu cooler with screws instead of pins and see what the results are.

i had my mate over today and he brought his heatsink which has screws rather than the stock coolers push pins and it still produced high temps. Ive had my CPU for 6 months now so its pretty new. I have emailed dabs to see if they know what the problem is and if they dont i will send it back to Intel.

If you bought it from dabs 6 months ago then they have to sort the rma out dude, youll probs find that they will swap it for you.
