Corsair Ups Performance Scale for CPU Coolers

I'm telling ya, people are going to continue to scoff at these units, but they're going to get better and better.

Price is the thing here.

As a system builder, I hope you are right. I would love a unit like this to be able to offer simple watercooling in my rigs to customers. I reckon 70% of the customers who I mention watercooling to are either scared off lack of knowledge, or cost. Something like this, a simple complete unit with a branded name behind it, which requires no maintainence and simple installation would be a hit with fellow OEM builders, if the price and performance were right.

Just do what i do ..

Ask them this

Does water and petrol go well together !!!!!!

No !!!!!

so why do cars have water inside them. Its the same thing.

Well it's predecessor was sold only to OEMs, and the design and ease of use is something which suited it to that application.

I'm looking forward to seeing how loud it is, and what sort of performance we can get from it. For £50 it could be very good. However, I find it hard to believe it will stand up to the likes of the TRUE and noctua offerings, which are cheaper.

Think it may come to a point where people buy these and mod them.

Do we know a ball-park price ? £50 would be awesome - but I have a feeling it will push closer to £100, cos it's shiney more than anything.

There'd be no point in modding these surely? They're designed as an all in one unit, you may as well buy separate watercooling if you want to mod it, that'd be easier and perform better.

£50 is the expected price, if it gets close to £100 there'd be no point in buying this over a standard WC setup. Up to £60 is not unreasonable, though it will put off a lot of people who otherwise would be on high end air cooling, which is a large section of the target market.

I know where ur coming from.

But it'll only take some people to get them in as reviews or tests - they take them apart, replace the block with a traditional one - tubing a little bigger or whatever - replace the fluid - change the rad arrangement with some existing stuff they have.

Ok their experiment cost them practically nothing - but if they got a further 10 degrees better performance, the chances are one of them will make a write-up and the £50/60 units are that much more attractive.

Heck, when one comes out that is that-good, some of the well know OC people will be sent free samples to play with them to see what they do. Chances are they'd make mods out of their experience.

It'd only take a few guides to be out there and suddenly loads of enthusiasts do it.

--- it's a wild example, but this like this do happen.

I don't disagree that people may well mod them, but I really doubt it'd be worth doing. You could replace the block, but then you may need bigger tubing, new coolant, and since the pump is in the block, a new pump. You'd still have a tiny £50 rad though! That's why I think it'd be a waste of time, you'd just be buying a new watercooling setup anyway.

My realistic prediction for this product is that it won't offer anything more over high end air cooling apart from perhaps being slightly more quiet, though the hum of the pump or similar may be even worse. I think it'll probably be best left to OEMs and n00bs who just want to say they have watercooling in their PC, but it won't catch on as an enthusiast product.

had Corsair in on Wednesday and they kept on mentioning this product to us.

It going to RRP around £65ish to be cheaper than the CoolIt Domino and they seem to have done a bit of R&D with it to upgrade it from the obvious company who initially made these.

Aimed soley for the 'newer' watercooling market thats emerging in the UK and for system builders to offer as an upgrade.

They seemed to be really enthusiastic about it and kept remarking that its a much better option than the old Nautilus offering they had before.

They were also very keen to stress this IS just a simple CPU cooling offering and shouldn't be though of as any more than that but I did hear their bench tests so far have put it ahead of the Noctua...but thats them testing their own product....many reviews will be out for launch though so we should see it's true offerings.

Thanks for posting that, interesting that they regard the CoolIT Domino as competition, kind of worrying is it not? That wasn't a great product. £65 is getting on to twice the price of the air coolers, I stand by my above comments on the system. Still, this is progress nontheless.

That's the point that Rasta was making though, someone is going to get it right with these kits before long. The tech is still in it's infancy, so it's unfair to write them off just yet. Given some more time and R&D and we will end up with a self contained unit that challenges not just air cooled HSF's but high end custom WC setups too.
