Corsair ICue 7000X RGB Case and H170i Elite Capellix Review

Untill this day it baffles me that basically one of the absolute biggest companies in the industry, Corsair, haven't simplified their RGB solution.

I mean, just 6 cables alone for those 3 fans... Those going to something else that requires both power and data cable, so that's another 2 cables. And this is not even beginning to talk about the potential case fans that might be needed to be hooked up as well.

Like come on, it's 2021, not 2001...

Isn't one pair of 3 cables the PWM cables which you can also connect to a splitter cable?

Does absolutely nothing for me, I really wish they would just refresh the Air 540 and put some actual effort into it -

-Replace the plexi with tempered glass
-Make the bottom of the case plain mesh with fan mounts
-Give both side panels captive thumbscrews.
-Make dust filters for all intakes easily removable.
-Update the cases IO with USBC.
-No rubberised surfaces, Just a nice matte black textured plastic.

I know we got the 740 and later the 680X but both were half assed products.

I still have the 540. Didnt think much of the 740. Seemed quite hideous to me.
Im almost tempted to drop back to the 540 and sell the 1000D just for extra space :)

Its interesting that the 540 is still sold regularly here, but the 740 appears discontinued.

Yeah the 540 is 1 of the best cases in years for sheer airflow, Still regularly sold at OCUK.

The supposed high end successor, The 680X from 2019, Needed a few areas changing and it would have been a proper successor but of course they had to follow the idiot trend of sticking glass infront of and on top of everything, Blocking airflow.

If they replaced the front and top glass panels with meshed up panels it would have been miles better, I replaced the top and front with plexi panels that are honeycombed from ColdZero, Not only did this drop internal temps by 2-3'c but also made the case quieter as it meant the fans didn't have to spin as fast trying to suck air from behind a solid glass panel.

Also having it so you need to practically dismantle your build to just clean the front dust filter is beyond stupid.

I don't know who the case designer at Corsair is but he needs to be moved to a different department, He's no good.

Nice, but just bought a 750D Airflow and H150i Elite, which I think is still a great case. I so wanted a 1000D but was too big to fit on or under desk!

It's not really fair to blame the case designer, it's the bean counters who screw everything up, ever since Corsair got taken over by a company that knows nothing about nothing except making money this is the sort of premium garbage that you get, capitalism at its finest!

It's not really fair to blame capitalisms fault either. Under the same system Corsair previously made exceptional products and tons of money. It's simply management philosophy.

Hardly anything outside of CPUs and GPUs are good products all around these days. Even then in GPUs it's iffy(not counting current pricing).

The real difference is the current company doesn't give a ratsarse about anything but making money, they don't design or build anything, they're just a consortium buying up businesses to turn a profit from them. Hence capitalism at is finest.

its all about building up the base line. With Nvidia pricing their chips at Value X.. it leaves AIBs clawing back as much money as they can. It seems like a cost plus model has been used but also thrown in demand and inflation. Couple that with methods to reduce costs on building the coolers, we end up with nice looking, yet cheap quality cards that cost a megaton

Lets face it, if you strip the cooler of a GPU, the board itself when non reference, looks decent. I dont think AIBs can go cheap there or we get poor performance and instability.

They opt instead to go cheap on the building of the cooler.

When it comes to cases, they seem to drop using strong or good quality metals wherever they can, and switch to plastics which flex, or creak or break. On top of that, it seems that our addiction to making our PCs look amazing has led to focus on aesthetics over performance. Welcome to the world of pretty cases with bad air flow that are made of cheap parts.

Blaming capitalism is such a left wing cop out, Sorry bud but it is, If it wasn't for capitalism you and I would be working the fields for 100 hours per week getting pennies while living in shacks and life expectancy would be a fraction of what it is now.

When a company takes advantage of the open market and makes an exceptional product that is capitalism at its finest, How come it's complete silence and we don't hear people praising capitalism then ? Left wing moaners at their finest.

You agreed with me to then turn around and say something that disagrees with the thing you agreed with....

As I said, this isn't capitalism at it's finest. The difference as you agreed with is a difference in Management philosophy of a company. Yes this new one sucks. Doesn't mean it's automatically one systems fault...

On the other positive hand, AMD were beneficiaries of it with Ryzen. A great product made a lot of money and they've continuously improved and impressed at competitive prices. Seems like a win to me.

To be on topic though, this case is meh and not interested. I don't understand the need for something so massive when people hardly use the space. For the few water coolers left I'm sure it's a dream case. It does look nice. To bad SLI died off. Was always a beastly look with two water blocks.

#casually covers his 1000d with a towel to hide the size and forgets his dog made a cave in there and stores all his bones along with the pc itself.

I agree on the 2 GPUs. It looks so much better visually.

Big Corsair Disappointment

Like come on, it's 2021, not 2001...

I usually replace some of my standby PC cases every 2-years or so. For the simple reason it rewarding me with a feeling that I have a new PC and no case cleaning required that year either. Then perhaps replacing at the same time memory, WIFI, storage, fans, etc. The review here is 100% correct and the 7000X is "basically" doing its job but no more, besides being rightfully described as raw and unrefined and with Corsair having dropped and slipped with all of the fine details. The Commander XT does not have the new connector used by iCUE Elite coolers. The included 140mm fans require cable extensions to work in the 7000X case. For what it is I would not touch the 7000X with a ten foot pole and then at the given MSRP. So it appears that Corsair essentially is throwing a "cheapend-out" PC case on the market. Amazing that Corsair with their coveted and held sterling reputation allowed some of their decision-makers to slipping a product like this onto the market!
