Most of us on the forums have by now heard of CHERRY MX keys for mechanical keyboards. The MX switches with their Gold Crosspoint technology have up to this point been appreciated by millions of users due to high precision, the best possible operating feel, and an extremely long service life. Well-known manufacturers of high-quality mechanical keyboards use the Cherry MX switches in different variants (red, blue, black and brown switches).

Now exclusively with Corsair, CHERRY bring you the next generation of CHERRY MX switches CHERRY MX RGB.

Enjoy

The new cherry MX RGB swithced will offer full colour control through the full RGB spectrum, that is 16.8 million colours.

CHERRY and Corsair will debut the CHERRY MX RGB switched during CES 2014 in January.

"EDIT"

It has now been officially debut at CES, here is a quote from Corsair;

The MX RGB Project: 100% mechanical keyswitches with per-key 16.8 million color backlighting in the most amazing gaming keyboard you’ve ever seen.

At CES 2014, California-based Corsair and Germany-based Cherry Corp. are debuting the “MX RGB Project” gaming keyboard. The technology showcase , based on a Vengeance K70 gaming keyboard fitted with new Cherry MX RGB keyswitches, gives gamers a first look at the vast customization and game enhancing benefits of per-key 16.8 million color backlighting.

In the second half of 2014, Corsair will bring the concept to life by launching the world’s first Cherry MX RGB-based gaming keyboards. The new keyboards promise to give gamers all of the precision, feel, and reliability of Cherry MX-based Corsair gaming keyboards enhanced with new personalization and gaming customization provided by nearly limitless per-key lighting combinations. The new keyboards will be available in several Cherry switch types: super-fast Cherry MX Red, the light tactile feedback of Cherry MX Brown, or the tactile and audible feedback provided by Cherry MX Blue.

Here is Corsair's debut video.

I find these keyboard very interesting, no longer are we forced to choose the back-light manufacturers choose for their keyboard but are given a true opportunity to use a whatever colour we choose (I bet everyone here is dying for a pink backlight on their Keyboard). Given the wide range of colours we can very easily match any led fans or strips in out rigs with these keyboards.

Wow those look pretty cool :) I wonder if every key has to be the same colour, or if you'll have the option to change each individual key, or groups of keys to whatever colour you want :)

I would assume you can change individual keys. Would be a waste of new tech really otherwise since there are already boards out there which light up groups/ rows of keys

So basically it's a cherry mx red with a rgb led. If you ask me that's nice to have, but not really "the next generation".

Yeah I know, mine does, I meant more to do with the different groups/keys being different colours, not just lit or not.

Thinking about it, it probably depends on the spec of the keyboard, because it will most likely be the software the manufacturers write which determines if every single key is individually set or they are all set together, so they can do whatever they choose. I'd expect the cheaper keyboards would have the keys all the same (variable) colour, but the more expensive keyboards will have the ability to customise it more.

I'm going to assume that it is individual keys otherwise they wouldn't have shown the WASD all in different colours towards the end of the video, otherwise it's a bit misleading.

Always good to see new improvments, I'm yet to make the switch (pun not intended) to a mechanical board because my ancient ps2 keyboard is still going strong but I'm certainly considering it!

Speaking from experience, being a mad gamer abusing his keyboard from time to time. Gotta say I still enjoy my Ducky Shine 3 with MX Blue switches. Its not like blue switches are in any way replaceable with MX Red switches... And if Ducky wanted, they could've also made individual RGB colors for the keys (as they did with the spacebar. There's nothing holding anyone back from doing this, as the cherry switches don't actually contain the LEDs...

Hmm, will definately get a keyboard with these switches when they're there. It's time for an upgrade anyway, I'm working with a free Dell keyboard right now..
