Can't complain, I think it will suit your current needs though might have some issues with the PSU when you come to upgrade the graphics card due to there only being one PCIe connector, and only two 12v rails, and only 460w.

Though, for now it looks like a cracker, go for it mate ;)
 
With all the advice you give me, it would be easier to get you to build a setup for me :) though that would kind of conflict with the fact that i'm doing it myself as i'm actually trying to learn something.

Nither of these would be an issue. CM make pretty good PSUs so the 460w would cope with all but the most demanding of set ups.
 
Obviously not the most demanding LOL you need serious POWAH out of that. They could be an issue depending on what components he decides to go for. Okay the E8400 is a good, energy efficient CPU but what else does he want in the system that could push it close to the max of the PSU?

What sort of a budget are you on for your build, and where do you want to purchase it from?

Unless he's running about 15 hard drives there will be no issue, given that CM haven't fully cheaped out with that particular PSU and he's not unlucky to get a fail rate one.

Right, so with that he should be okay as you stated, I agree, the chances of him getting a failing PSU is very low!
 
The budget isn't really too much of an issue. The issue is that as it is my first build I wanted to use 'tried and tested', overclocker friendly, parts. I suppose the system will end up costing about £700 ish.

I will use some version of ASUS P5Q range for the mobo.

It is a close call between the Q6600 and the E8400 for the processor, but as I intend to use it for games primarily I believe the E8400 will get the nod.

Graphics will most likely be the Sapphire HD 4850.

Cooling will be provided by the freezer 7 or thier new model which I've heard about in here.

RAM is a little less clear as I've not started a thread asking for advice on this yet, i'll probably get something like the Ballistix. Does 4x1GB or 2x2GB make any difference?

A small HHD, a card reader and a DVD writer finish the job.

Thoughts?
 
To my understanding the 3850 is a very weak card for its price range as well, would he not be better off with a card such as a 8800gt which can be got for as little as £50, or a ATI 3670, which has very good reviews.
 
Decent spec. Enless you have some kind of 'must have latest technology' complex its one of the the best combos you can get atm. And the PSU will cope no problem.

Personally I'd get an aluminium case, but there's nothing really wrong with steel.
 
I bought those for my old 939 system and I can say it is quiet and cool in there. Obviously my 939 system doesn't need as much power and yours will do but I was very happy with what I got for £49.99 with free del.
