Cooler for 8800GT

Arctic Cooling Accelero S1, it's on par with the Thermalright and can be had for about £12-13. You can fit 2x120mm fans on it using cable ties, one works just fine thuogh.

I agree with Raikiri, HR-03 is best for outright performance and build quality. But in my opinion the S1 is almost as good but much cheaper.

Keep in mind that the HR-03 is HUGE, so if you're low on space I'd probably go for the Accelero S1 or maybe the Coolink GFXChilla.

What this man said. Even without a fan it'll keep you cooler than a stock fan.

I'm passive atm, running low 40's at idle, low 50's after an hour or so of Stalker.

Don't waist your money no a gfx cooler. The added oc over a stock cooler is minimal. And the exhaust all hot air into the case. The cost of a 8800gt + a hr-03 will be about the same as a 8800gts 512. Get that instead. It exhausts hot air out back and will give much better performance. These cards have good warranties. Don't worry about the temps of your gfx card they are fine up to almost 100c.

Hope this helps.

+1, get a 8800gts 512 and apply some as5 then it's good enough to keep the card cool

Absolutly spot on. Even though your agreeing with myself. Also you could get some Thermal tape - Sekisui #5760. It is very highly regarded, I think its the best you can get. Use that for the mem chips on the card.

Also the cooler on the 8800gts 512 is the same as the 9800gtx. And the 9800gtx is just a clocked 8800gts 512. This shows that the stock cooler can do a good job.

i have never heard of Sekisui #5760, i'll have a look at it as im needing some thermal tape as well

Over at XS they consider it to be the best. As far as i can gather they've been using it since 05. There is an ebay seller selling strips for 99p. Enough to do lots of sinks. I will be buying some to do my mosfets on my mobo.

Well my AC accelero is much cooler for no noise. The 8800GT stock cooler is a joke, end of story. I got my card near to release and read enough horror stories of it breaking down, overheating etc. Turned the fan up to combat that and it sounds like theres a nest of wasps inside my computer. Take off the anorexic cooler which is caked in far too much TIM, put on the AC, the cores at 35 degrees now. With the stock cooler it would idle at 65 and cut out during games. Now whats the point in that?

To the o/p, an 8800GTS is probably the best bet, the price is so close and the cooler does look to be much better than the GT so no real need to upgrade urgently.

Best bang for the bucks, AC accelero, however I personally would go for the HR-03 GT with a nice Scythe S-flex fan

I'm using a 8800GT with a Thermaltake DuOrb. It ran idling at 75 ish degrees, hit 90 on crysis and others, but now the DuOrb has slashed it down to idling at 38 and hitting mid 50's on those games. My ambient temperature is about 28 (nice warm room :P).
