This may have been asked on here before but I thought id ask again.

Is there any conversion kits out there to give a seagate barracude 7200.10 hard drive a clear acrylic window? iv seen them about and i thought they look nice.

Iv also seen some mods but dont want to risk chucking a dremmel near my cover.

I'd only use something like that if i didn't care much for the disk or the data on it. All it takes is a tiny bit of dust to fall on the HDD platter and it could be bye-bye data

Heck u`d need some balls to do that.

Have not seen any kits for it tho.

I`d try it on a spare drive, but not one I relied on. Defo need an air tight room with ZERO dust particles in the air.

U pull this off and I want pics :) Be very nice to watch the revs, prob need some kind of lighting to show it off too.

I think i might leave it then until i find an old drive that i can mess about with. see if anyones got a drying one. Or could buy another seagate, do the window. if it dies then i could try really quickly swapping the cases over. Ill think of something. i hope

cheers anyways guys. if i do ill keep you updated

I'm going with its almost impossible without a class 100 clean room. The space between the head and platter is soo sooo small!

Infact yeah, thinking about it again, u only need to get a dose of moisture inside the drive and it`s gonna be screwed.

IF ur lucky in this sense, there may be some evap through an air hole, but u`d have to be talking about a really small amount of moisture, and hope it hasn`t left any footprints.

I`d think only some1 who happens to work around something like one of those Intel lab rooms would even try it. Walking through air locks where air quality changes `n stuff.

Tis a nice idea tho. People from Raptor should do this to justify some of the prices.

Thats my main cause for doing this. The price is stupid. £150 for a HD ....hmmmm...no thanks. especially for someone running on a budget.

I think ill just leave the money spending to something worth doing.

Still gonna think about giving it a shot though.

XD

It would we a cool idea but even if you could do it the drive would most likely die from overheating. Even the Raptors have problems with that. Also you don't necessarily need a clean room but you do need a very dust free environment.

This would be soo cool if you pulled it off but i dont think you will in normal condition. Defentaly dont try it on a hard disk with important data on it!
