Contrast/Brightness calibration utils?

are there any utils I can download to calibrate my screen? I've tried the nVidia thingy, but I don't like the adjustments.

I've lowered everything to a setting that suits my eyes, but still they hurt at lowish settings:

70 contrast

30 brightness

the refresh rate is locked at 60Hz

:( :( :(

edit: I had my 17" crt running at 1280x1024@100Hz for 3years... this wouldnt affect my viewing pleasure with the tft will it? :?

refresh rate at 60hz on a tft is NOT the same as 60hz on crt.

a crt image is made up by a "gun" shooting electrons that changes to light and becomes an image.

the image is writen line after line and at low refresh rates the lines starts to disappear before they are freshened up and thats whats causing it to flicker, at higher refresh rates the line are freshened up before they deteriorate.

a tft image is made upp by pixels changing the light that flows through them and if no colour change is made they do not change either so no flicker.

not the best explanation but hope you understand and i got it right.

to calibrate the screen, i do that on the monitor itself.

but some monitors utilises software for that.

is it hooked up on d-sub or dvi ?

Hello,

Hey thanks for the insight behind the technology although I already knew that the refresh rate of a tft doesn’t have the same affect as a crt.. when I had my formac tft that time, I increased it to 75Hz and it was 'easier' to the eye, reason why I said it was locked at 60Hz.

Its connected via dvi... The thing is whenever I set it up to my liking, after 1/2hr or so, my eyes can't take it, so I have to decrease the contrast/brightness.. I never experienced this with the crt.

i think my eyes are defective or perhaps it takes a little time to get used to the crt to tft move? :freak: :freak:

What graphics card you using mate? Both nvidia and ATI control panels have extensive brightness controls in their control panels
