i built my computer around a year ago.

SPecs:

i7 965

gtx295

ocz blade 6gb 1800mhz

ocz core ssd

antec quattro 850w

windows 7 on ssd

ok now the problem:

ever since i installed windows 7 on my computer, it has suffered from hangs... it can hang for upto 20 seconds, for example, if i open the internet. the wierd thing is i can perform other tasks while this part hangs. i usually check task manager and everything seems to be fine. however, occasionally the whole thing will hang for around a minute... its soooo frustrating!

the frustrating things is my vaio laptop, which is nowhere near the price of this computer, feels so much quicker at loading and doing things than the desktop :S

any idea why this could be happening.

cheers

you may have a virus!

some virii/trojans do not show in the task manager

or, superfetch may be cleaning/tidying your system (increasing performance over time!!!), if you interrupt it, it starts from scratch.

how big is your SSD?

thanks for the reply. its 120gb.

when these hangs happen the task manager usually show 0-1% cou usage and normal ram usage

does your HDD (storage) make any noise during the 'hang'?

haha sweet, what you think of of it?

nope, no noise. usually i can do other other things while that program is stuck.

for example right now im installing net framework scanning comp and using firefox. now firefox keeps haning intermittently for around 5 seconds a time. the blue loading circle appears and not responding comes up this also happens in IE9...

Is this on start up or all the time?

I get hangs when I boot into Windows after a restart and it takes a good couple of minuets before everything runs smoothly, although i'm not sure if it's Windows or my old 80gb Hittatchi boot drive

It may also have started happening for me since I installed SP1 but I can't remember if it was happening before or not because I did a fresh install about three weeks ago.

just did a virus scan and its came out clean.

In Windows 7, control panel > system and security > system

It will say if you have SP1 installed if it doesn't then it's not.

nope, its just windows 7 ultimate... is that an auto update through windows update or do i have to DL and install myself?

So it hung with a clean install of W7? if so this sound like a SSD issue, OR a Windows 7 issue. All i can suggest to you sense you virus scan came clean is to re-install W7. if it does it after yet another install make sure you SSD is plugged in perfectly (nothing loose). if non of that helps it may be an SSD issue.

If you have everything installed on another HDD you just need to install Windows again on your SSD, I recommend you format then install. When you reinstall just make a shortcut to the game/program so you can access it or just access it from the HDD it's installed to. You will still need to reinstall drivers, AV and the likes.

If you want to keep your browser bookmarks, paswords etc copy the folders from C:\users\*your username*\app data\local and C:\users\*your username*\app data\roaming also C:\program filesx86 and then when you do a fresh install put the files where you got them from. I usually copy the MY Documents folder as well and copy the folder over the same as with the browser folder that way you still have your game save and program configs, you may need to reinstall some programs though.
