Chipset fan on DFI SLI-D

Hi guys,

Since I managed to get my PC working again I've noticed that the chipset fan doesn’t sound too great on my board, adding to that, my 6800U is party covering it (which probably doesn’t help)

I’m hoping to replace the noisy / crappy stock chipset fan with something passive that can be bent / shaped around the 6800 PCB, I saw a pic of a fangly blue contraption on another site but cant for the life of remember what it was called!

Anyone got any bright ideas? :P

that blue chipset cooler would proabbly have been that zalman ZM-NB47J one.

yes most people relace it for this ine, needs little modding to fit but does the job well.

Just google this al ull find who sells it Vantec Iceberq4 CCB-A4C Copper VGA cooling kit with Blue LED

Most people use the zalman one I think - at least I've seen quite a few of them - Mike (BAcon) has one on his DFI I believe. I wasn't aware the vantex iceburg fitted on the dfi though so that would be a better option.

A lot of people do use the Zalman one...

It never really impressed me, I went with the Swifty one, but they have a new all copper one which can be used with or without fan. Thermaltake also do a nice little copper one :)

yes, remember guys It must be suitable to be used with my 6800U which has a stupidly long PCB :(

Doh! :$

How does the Zalman manage to fit then - it's quite tall right?

and why did they put the chipset in such a stuuupid place?!

Isn't it about time a manufacturer released the perfect motherboard? 8)

So does the iceburg fit or not? I think I remeber seeing someone mod it slightly to fit..

Ah cheers Vrykyl - I couldn't remeber where I saw it. I'd go for the iceburg then axer mate.

the mods really easy to do - the hs cost me £7...took about 5 mins to mod it - trim off the 'ears', drill 2 mounting holes in appropriate place and sand down the 2 small areas for mobo clearance [id also recomend stretching the springs on the push pins so they provide more downforce too] - mounted it all up and slapped on some as5...chipset temps stopped being a constant 50*c and settled at 40ish :D

well iv got a 7800gtx and whilst it does over hang the cooler, it has a low enough profile for clearance not to be an issue....and it certainly doesnt hinder performance :)

Do you have decent air flow, pref a fan blowing near the chipset if you're using the zalman.

just checked - my gtx lines up slightly lower than the center hub on the fan on the iceburq, so the power sink on the gtx just covers the hub...so airflow is actually pretty free into it :) the plastic shroud on the fan forces air out the sides - so all is fine!
