Changing psu fan

Hi there

Right now my whole system on the whole is pretty quite aside from my psu's fan. The psu in question is this badass mother, Zippy 600watt:

I'm thinking of going for something quiet(ish/er) such as a Sharkoon 2000:

Looking at the insides of the psu in the review it doesn't look like I'll need to be soldering so it should be easy to do. However I can't seem to find any 80mm fans that move the same amount of air. So are there any detrimental effects from swapping fans? I know if its not moving as much air its going to be a little hotter.. hmm..

Any thoughts?

Cheers guys :)

Yeah, Just try and get as close to the original fan's RPM/CFM as you can. Otherwise you may encounter problems where the fan doesn't spin fast enough (or at all) when its volted down by the fan controller in the unit.

Cheers guy!

I'm gonna try get hold of something suitable and do it over easter when I'm home and got some power tools to wreck my new case :)

Oh and great review on that psu Jim :), saw it on Specialtech a while back, half price for £40ish, quick look and low and behold, full marks. Bargain.

Cheers!

EDIT: I'm going to be removing some of the extra molex's from the psu cables and seen this here tool:

Clicky

Anyone know if its any good and makes it any much easier to do?

You could use a paperclip and patience, but using that tool makes it significantly easier to remove the molex's.

Used one before on my old PSU, came with an A.C.Ryan Sleeving Kit.

Ordered an 80mm Xcilnce fan to stick in the psu to shut it up, if it messes about and has trouble when its undervolted etc I may just drill a hole and have the cable coming outa the psu and rig it up like that.

I'll probably try by hand on the molexs then, pretty handy with a soldering iron if I need one so no worries there :)

Cheers for the input guys!

Job done :)

Silent as the grave now. Not sure the fan moves even close to the amount of air that the original did but I think it'll be fine 'til it starts smoking.

Cheers guys!
