I want to change my avatar but I don't know how ????

Little arrow next to your name at the top, go to settings > change avatar
Make sure you post an introduction and say hello.

I think you need a certain amount of posts before you can change your avatar though

I think you need to be at a certain level before you can change your avatar. I needed to be a member before I could do that as well, but because your a newbie it wont let you. So just be active and the levels will climb!

Aye, 5 or 10 posts to be able to set an avatar I'm not sure which but it really isn't a lot when you find a few interesting threads. Just don't spam your way to it and you'll be golden
