Hi guys, I recently sold Half-life 2 DVD special edition game to someone who is having problems installing the game - are there any known issues? The DVD installed fine on my machine first go and he has said the DVD is in perfect nick. He has tried half a dozen times on 4 different pcs with no luck, the game install freezes (just the game not windows itself) right after it says its detected dirext X.....

Microsoft doesn't give any error messages and he can install other games/software with no problems.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers, Nick.

What stage of the install is this? Is it after or before the steam thing registers and decodes the encrypted files?

download steam separatly then create an acc or loin on urs then download the game instead of insalling.

Download the whole game? Isn't it on DVD = GB's of data?

If he's trustworthy you can borrow my copy; if you think that might be the problem?

Saying that, what if it's a DirectX problem. How about downloading the latest DirectX and re-installing it separately, before installing HL2?

Apparently reinstallation of directX does not help. If I can't think of anything else I might have to take you up on your offer Stocky if you don't mind - he is very trustworthy.

well he got it to work eventually but steam is saying the cd key is already in use, which figures as it was my game. is there a way round this?

That's good :)

I think you have to transfer your account details to him, which he will then have to use... (Acc and Password)

That's the thing with HL2, it is a clever way of getting over the whole game fraud thing though.

Apparently that costs $10 and takes 6-8 weeks, so I just gave him my steam username and password :)

The system can't be that good is all you have to do is share account details??

See my sig for more details :D

Nah, the system will block the account if it detects more than one of the same. My mate had all sorts of problems with that when he changed computers...
