Cable modem probs

G'day guys

I'm currently using a Motorolla SB4200 cable modem supplied via my ISP, it's a POS I know. It's starting to give me grief by bumping me off the net at an ever increasing frequency, and my ISP has confirmed this from their side. Before I go out and purchase a new ISP approved modem for AUS$80, I was looking for a firmware update for it. I haven't been able to find one as yet, does anyone know where I can find one please. If not, suggestions for a new modem would be muchly appreciated, so I can approach Optusnet with an alternative

Thanks

PV :)

You have one of the best modems to hack mate :) I started with an sb4200 as u can flash to a hacked BIOS yourself with it. But if you're going to upgrade then I suggest one of the new 5000 series SurfBoards... I bought mine pre hardmodded and I love it :D

My first reaction would be to say its probably overheating, if its bumping you off the net, but hasn't before, its unlikely to be a firmware problem.

Thanks for the comments gents. It was very much appreciated :worship:

Update: My ISP's service guys came out today and checked everything, they replaced some slightly corroded connections in the cable box outside, the isolator and checked the modem itself (no probs). Further, they are sending out line techs to replace the 'T' plate that connects my cable to the main line, as these are now outdated and are upgrading them.

FragTek do you have a link to any of the modded bios' avaiable for my modem pls, as I haven't had any luck.

Thanks

erm I dunno mate, where I live is an inner city suburb of Brisbane but it is one of the older cabled areas. I don't know if where you live is a new sub-divisional area (if so you may already have them) or if in an older area you may have to check. They probably won't replace them until you experience some form of degradation of your service. Then again they may already have it organised within their maintenance schedule, once again you'll prolly have to confirm this with them. :)
