Bye bye ppd

With my 680 I am only using client-type beta. It's been solid at about 80k PPD. On my AMD cards I'm using both advanced and beta flags and they have been much more consistent as well. With only advanced I was getting wildly fluctuating PPD.

Anyone else seeing similar?

Thanks for the info. I'm just using the beta flag at the moment. I'll add the advanced flag as well. The V7 client is estimating 197,679 PPD :D

"GPU (Core 15) Prjoject 7627 moving to advanced". posted by jadeshi.

So it looks like this core 15 project was in beta for awhile and would explain some of SOA_RRU's and others point loss....

Sorry about the double post, but I had to bump the thread.

Is anyone else getting project 8900? It takes around 8 hours to complete, giving ~25k PPD and it doesn't use all of the available GPU power.

I've gotten a string of these, starting from yesterday and because I'm not folding a full 24 hours my production has dropped massively. I was just wondering if anyone else has been getting this particular WU and what your experiences have been like?

A few weeks ago I kept getting 8900 WU's on both my cards. My 670 would sit at only 80% power usage and I would only be getting about 30k PPD off each card.

All of my cards are running 8900 WUs 5X AMDs and 4x Nvidias.

The AMD cards are at about 97% usage and the Nvidias are at about 98% usage.

My slowest cards, 2x 560TI 448s get about 32K PPD each on 8900s

Ah ok. My card is at ~80% usage as well. 75K PPD if I fold for a solid 24 hours.

Is there any way I can make my card use 100% of it's available power?

I have not folded on any of the 6 or 7 series Nvidia cards, so may not be too much help.

Do have a core assigned to the GPU for folding, for example SMP7 if you are cpu folding? Nvidia cards need a full cpu core available for each GPU that is folding.

Are we talking about gpu usage from the cards or power usage or both?

Using Core 17 my GTX 660 & 660Ti max out gpu usage wise at 99% but every few seconds that fluctuates anything down to 90% then back to 99% then after say 3-10mins or so the usage will stop all together whilst it writes a checkpoint? then carries on.

Now if were talking about power usage then depending on the work unit my cards fluctuate between 89-96% using Core 17 whilst using a full cpu core. Now if i was running Core 15 then both gpu's would be solid at 99% power usage.

As far as I'm aware I haven't. On the Expert tab I just have the beta flag set.

How would I go about assigning a core to the GPU?

I'm talking solely about GPU usage. It fluctuates wildly, anywhere from 80% usage to 97%. It's not consistent with project 8900. I'm not sure if it's some kind of power saving feature on the card or if it's just the WU. I'm thinking it's the WU as I've not seen this kind of behavior from other WU's.

Thanks guys for the replies.

This is assuming that you are running SMP as well as GPU folding.

In advanced control go to configure, slots, CPU, at the top of this page is a place to set the number of cpu threads the slot should use. i.e. if running 8 threads set to 7 and this leaves a free core for the card.

Thanks. I have made the change :)

I will see if that helps once the current GPU WU has finished.

8900

I've gotten quite a few as well - sometimes for a few days in a row. Not only are my experiences the same as you, but my 7950 will occasionally get hung up at 0%. I woke up to that lovely sight this morning.

Folding Project 11293 on one of my 7950s. Averaging 5372 PPD. Ouch. Hopefully I don't get a string of these, it's not even worth the effort to fold at that sort of PPD.
