(Bulldozer + GTX 670) or (Ivy Bridge + HD 7850)

First of all....Hey
hello.gif
, I'm kinda new here.

So, I'm building a new rig, and I'm so confused whether to get an FX-8120 with an ASRock 970 Extreme4 and a GTX 670, or should I go for Ivy bridge and get an i5-3570K with an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 and an HD 7850 (or a GTX 560 Ti). Both rigs are about the same price.

I'm gonna be using the rig mainly for gaming with slight video editing.

Thanks in advance.

probably better off with a bulldozer with the cashback scheme now, you won't really notice any difference when gaming and I think I'm right in saying it's better for video editing/rendering (correct me if i'm wrong

) Bear in mind it runs MUCH hotter than the intel chips though, so a decent cooler is in order.

The Bulldozer chips are more than fine for gaming. Getting better GPUs are the priority for gaming.

Ideally I'd suggest an i7 intel CPU but the 8-core AMD is great for the price and better than an i5 for editing.

So I'd go for the 8150 with the 670. That's great balance for what you want. The 3570k/7850 will perform worse in both games and video editing.

Just go sandy + 670, coz sandy better than BD but cheaper nowadays than Ivy, unless you vid edit still if you do that then even hyper threaded Sandy i7 still good, at the end your budget, if u can the ivy + 670, those nVidia drivers are amazing, I'm on a 570 & ever since they released adaptive v-sync its a wow!! still on phenom II 955be at 3.8Ghz but will upgrade whole Pc at end of the year when I can afford it

Thanks guys, but I really can't get the ivy and the 670, kinda on a low budge, cuz i'm also getting a new laptop too.

what about the i5-2500K with a Z75 mobo and the GTX 670??

well, when we talk gaming what is the difference between the bulldozer 8120, i5-2500K, and the i5-3570K in percentage terms??

also is there difference between the bulldozer 8120 and 8150 in gaming??

Based on the decisions being thought about the budget looks to be around £800-900.

I know I've said this before above but the AMD option is the best for what the OP needs.

You don't need the power of an i5 for a single GPU gaming pc - the AMD CPUs are more than capable.

The 8120 will out perform the i5 for editing and save money for a better GPU to boot.

I'd say go for the Intel setup, Bulldozer isn't good for gaming, plus it runs hotter and once overclocked uses a lot of power.

I personally wouldn't Touch BD.

If you can go for the above with Ivy, sell the 3 games.

The Onion is not a good place to get the news.

Benchmarks show that there is very little difference in most games with BD beating intel in some and intel beating BD in some. Also Per ghz the BD can OC higher than Ivy can before running into heat issues.
