BSoD and Insert correct drive

Been going on for awhile now. Every day or two comp will randomly blue screen (usually when play games and/or watching videos. Also when i leave the comp on overnight half the time when i wake up it shows a black screen saying "incorrect boot device, please insert correct drive and press any key". More recently i've also been having problems with video files aswell, so far only with mkv files, when i play them in vlc it displays a green screen, but you can still hear the audio (This only happens with about 1/3rd of the mkv files). However it still handles games fine, like metro 2033 in dx11 and max settings.

Specs:

Intel core i7 2600k

Asus sabertooth p67 b3 revision

msi gtx 580 lightning

ocz agility 3 120gb ssd

corsair h70

corsair vengeance ram 3x4gb

the insert correct drive seems like its looking for something. If I read right you see this after it bsod's overnight?? It may be rebooting and not finding ur drive. So that makes me think its all correlated to the drive being faulty. My recommendation is check the drive for issues if possible by cloning it to another drive and running the cloned drive in its place. Also check and make sure you have the latest firmware for your ssd. And lastly check the manufaturers site for compatibility issues with ur mobo.

Thats a Uefi bios board isn't it?

I've had exactly the same issue with an asrock board, usually after a prime95 failure with a 101 bsod.

On the restart it appears that the board has dropped the drive, but a soft restart clears the issue straight away.

It's mildly annoying, I've also had the usual start/reset/start/run issues that I've seen reported around forums.

Have you kept an eye on your dr whojit on board segment display? I keep forgetting to watch mine as it's on the floor and everytime I kneel down to look I get mugged by the cat.

Does your SSD use a SandForce controller? If so, that's your culprit. Patriot is working on this issue as well where you get a BSOD, computer reboots but the SSD isn't detected until a hard reset.

Check OCZ's site for the latest firmware for your SSD.

@S_I_N

Made a backup of my ssd but hve yet to clone it, used Arconis true image home and it wouldnt let me clone to another drive x_x. I havn't installed any firmware for the ssd.

@lee

>.< rly hope its not the board.

@FragTek

Not sure what you mean by SandForce Controller.

And yeah have to hard reset for it to detect and i havn't downloaded the firmware from OCZ.

This most likely the cause?.

If they are still working on the issue should i install the firmware and run the os from the normal hdd for now?.

check ur PM's bro detailed it out for ya if you have a seagate or western digital hdd you can use the software from thier site (which is acronis as well) but has cloning I dont know about the other makers as I havent looked but I'm sure they have something

SandForce is new ultra high speed SSD controller, let me check and I will tell you.

Yup, it's SandForce. This is definitely your problem.

Here you go: http://www.ocztechno...RevoDrive_3_X2/

Can't believe you can't update the firmware on that drive when your OS is running on it, OCZ epic failed real bad with that.....

@ S_I_N

Cheers mate, sent you a reply.

@Frag

Thanks alot =),

So this should take care of the Bsod's and drive detection?.

Hopefully it does lol, will make a clone onto my hdd tomorrow so i can install the firmware.

Thanks so much for all your help so far guys.

Will post again tomorrow whether its resolved or if i still need a hand.

Ok sorry for the double post but still having trouble.

Woke up to a inser correct drive this morning, so after a hard restart it came up with the alert

"A disk read error has occured,

press ctrl+al+del to restart"

Then when soft reseting it comes up with

"BOOTMGR is missing

press ctrl+alt+del to reastart"

this kept happening.

So booted from the windows cd and made a fresh install onto my hdd, installed all my drivers etc.

Downloaded the firmware from OCZ, and it's saying it cannot locate any ocz drives, do i need to format it perhaps?.

Also still having the green screen problem with some mkv files on the fresh install, this a codec problem or more likely a prob with the files themselves?.

Is the SSD in SATA ports 1 or 0? If not move it to one of those ports. If it is try moving it to the other port. If its still not showing the drive try and move it to a sata port on a different controller if your board has one.
