Erm not sure if this is the right place to put this but yea :)

I'm Currently with Zen Internet paying

£24.99 for Unlimited 512kb ....

What ISP you guys with? and what are the limitations...

=/ and any ideas how much these "fair usage" policy's acctualy limit

your connect?

p.s "browney" your with BE internet right? how are they? is there

up 24mb service any good?

Well I've worked for a few ISPs in my time, and leant that you get what you pay for... Cheap broadband = cheap service imo.

If your a gamer I can't recommend IDNET enough. I've had 2 short periods of high pings, but that was before the upgraded pipelines. Service is solid, low pings, no speed drops and if you need any help, you just call the number and get straight through to a helpful person in the UK.

They do a MAX (up to 8Mb) service for £24.99 with a 30Gb limit. This is more than adequate for my usage, if your going over that then you are downloading serious stuff imo...

Full Idnet packages are available here - http://www.idnet.net/broadband/default.jsp. If you don't know already, but Idnet are a close partner of OC3D. This isn't the reason I (and you'll see a lot of other forum members do) back them up; they are just a very good ISP!

With regards to fair usage policies - normally ISPs don't like you going over the 100Gb mark as this is compromising the network for other users.

Be is great I've been with

BT

Plusnet

IDNet

UKFSN

BE

Be has been the best so far best speed best pings and no usage it's really good cant complain

I share a connection with 4 other people (and sometimes 6)... and personally my usage (download) can be from 10GB-50GB a month =/.

I think ill try BE, I can't really pick a limited connection while in my current living situation :(

Any Port blocking etc.? Traffic shaping?

I'm on UKFSN (enta.net) atm and haven't had any problems. I had Zen years ago and the customer service was excellent, altho my ping wasn't good on it for some reason :(

ISP's I've used for ADSL:

freedom2surf - rubbish support (tried to with-hold MAC code for migration)

zen - good support, bad ping (they said it was my area or something)

nildram - were excellent until they got bought out

plusnet - good until I had to contact support, worse ISP for support. Had to use someone else's connection to report than mine was down

idnet - brilliant support, really really bad pings (300+ms), random disconnections, random re-sync's, never got anything sorted.

Support blamed routers, then exhange, then BT, then the package. We worked out there were many routers, many exchanges with the same problem at the same time. Also tried changing the package but it was the same.

ukfsn - brilliant speeds, brilliant ping times, better routing, good support. All of my problems from idnet stopped as soon as I migrated to ukfsn.

Exact same with me moved to Be and my pings went down 50%

I forgot to post prices :) I'm on the Home MAX 30 (£19.99 30gb peak + 300gb off-peak, 1month contract - none in other words)

I was with UKFSN but I have just moved to UK Online due to them becoming available at my exchange. Paying £19.99 for a upto 8mb service, had a load of trouble when signing up (can be seen in my other thread) but now that its sorted its been the best connection I have ever had. My pings have more than halved to some servers and my speed doesnt fluctuate during peak hours like it did with UKFSN.

They run on the easynet network so see if its available at www.samknows.com

Thanks, Sam

Same with ukfsn, only 1month contract

Yea, ive got Home Max from IDNET. I highly recommend them. Ive had no problems at all and the service is quality.

IDNet customer support is 1st class tbh. I cant describe how much better it is than say AOL etc. The speed is quality too, I got up to 800k/sec on the last episode of Pure Pwnage! with an average of 560k/sec on a torrent!

With Be after having nightmeres with plusnet.

Only downside on Be is the BeBox, does some suckie udp stuff, stops DoW and CoH working.

Strange I find it better than my old NETGEAR DG834G

I suffered chronically at the hands of Plus' traffic shaping policy, so moved to newnet. They've been excellent ever since, with fast speed and no reliability issues. I've had to call them once since I migrated, and that was an email account creation problem which was resolved immediately.

I'm a light user (in bandwidth terms) so I don't need a high cap on my connection so their £18 package suits me.

Its strange how people assume that just because IDNet had a bad month or so with really poor pings, that they are still like that.

5-10ms ping most of the time in CSS with IDNet here. Not had ping problems in a LONG time.

And for those that think that these uncapped ISP's are the answer to your prayers, think again. They WILL either get very slow and not have enough money to upgrade their lines, or they will make you pay a hefty premium for continuation of "unlimited" or high usage services. BT wholesale charge a LOT for bandwidth and these companies need to make a profit out of you ;)
