BOE launches their world's first 500Hz gaming monitor

That's an insane claim. Of course that probably just means input, I seriously doubt it's 500hz refresh on the pixels.

Even if they manage to do this, does it even make sense? To get 500 FPS at 1080p you still need to lower your settings drastically and/or invest in a GPU that's definitely overkill.
And I'm a 1080p60 guy over here, who'd take a higher refresh rate over higher resolution any day.

Well, yes, to begin with, you can run games like CS:GO at 500fps easily, and I guess that's the target audience right? The only other advantage I can see for this, is the fact that you do'nt need to bother with Vsync frame limiters or anything else, just play your games with no tearing at all and that's nice but really not a dealbreaker or a reason i'd pay a big premium over slower panels.

Pretty sure Doom Eternal could do it too. Impressive feat, but I agree, its a gimmick and unnecessary product.

Paying a higher price for performance you can rarely achieve. I can see people buying it purely for bragging rights though.

I don't imagine anyone outside of maybe a tiny handful of people would really see or feel a difference after 200+ FPS, Personally I stop seeing/feeling a difference after around 180FPS on a 240Hz display, I think at this point it's just a case of -

"We have all the hertz !"

Yep. I guess there will always be some person with the trained eye that could tell the difference between 200hz or more (i refuse to get into that debate so any refutes I will blatantly ignore) but in todays PC state, 500hz is just over the top. I still think 144hz is where we can comfortably enjoy smoothness, and quality combined.

Yeah I don't bother arguing about any of that stuff, While anything up to around 200FPs I can see/feel I tend to cap most of my games at 75FPS so my system stays cool and quiet.
