Boardy's SLI Phase

Well I suppose you all figured out from Frozen PC that I was gonna make one so here it is. The main build thread is over on XS but I'll put the best pics in here.

It's not completely finished yet as it still needs it's final charge and to be put on the 80w loadtesters, but it's looking good so far.

First off, my work area for most of this build to this point.

No load temps with R507 (Compressor temp left, Fluke 52-II both evaps, return 3 inches from compressor on the right)

No load pressures on first run (-0.3bar lowside, 11bar highside)

Mmmmmm 2 -50 evaps :D

Suction lines frosted over about -40

Pics are off my XDA Exec and Thicky's cam and there is more to come soon :P

What ya recon to that then?

Cheers

Not yet no. I need to fine tune the charge. It's going to be charged to 80w on each head hopefully. The highest overclocked, stupidly vmodded 7800GTX running on LN2 pushes out 120w so I should be ok tuning to 80w :D

Just for the record the evaps are custom made from 1 Kayl CPU evap cut in half and attached to the lines by Gray Mole. As they are cut in half they are an unconventional 2 step design. I have more of the CPU evaps coming into the country very soon, aswell as the 3 step design GPU evaps :D

May make another unit at some point soon out of another 1/5hp compressor that's sitting around doing nothing at the moment, and the new 3 step evap design see how they are next to each other.

Good job Boardy mate - can't wait to see some volt modded (warlord shigs special) SLI 7800GTX 256MB action - 680+ (1.75v) / 1575 (2.5v).

Get that sucka hooked up and bench like there's no tomorrow ;)

Cheers guys, this will be going on the cards as soon as my CPU phase arrives as it's a little bit of a waste without that :P I'm told the unit will b finished and ready to ship sometime this week :) If it's not with me quickly I will probably be testing another CPU S/S with a Kayl evap Thicky is working on at the mo, and get some benches.

The plans are a) Get 80w heatloads on both heads and charge it acordingly, b) Get it on 7800GTX's, c) Get it on Thicky's X1800XT's and Intel rig :D

Let the fun begin. By the way, this unit will be going under my CPU S/S unit and is for 24/7 use if I can tune it right ;)

Master G - Cheers matey ;)

Well tuning didn't quite go as I'd planned to say the least. Running 80w on each head bought the temps to around +20 fully loaded, not really what I was after tbh.

After talking with a few ppl I have decided to move my high side access to the bottom of the condensor before the filter and do a tripple vac on the unit. My conclusion is that there is some moisture in the system that is clogging up the cap tubes a little restrictiong flow, which would explain the 170psi unloaded pressure.

I'm currently running with around 9.5ft of .028 cap on the system. My plans are -

1) Add another access on the bottom of the condensor

2) Tripple vac and charge

3) If all looks better like that, tune the charge.

4) If pressures are still a little too high, cut the caps back about 1ft and recharge

5) Same as 3

6) Same as 4

7) Repeat until I get where I want to be

8) Make mounting hardware for the 7800GTX's and X600pro

9) Attach to X600pro on 1 head and an 80w loadtester on the other and see how badly I get condensation on the card. If all looks good, on the 7800's it goes :D

10) Bench like a deamon with the FX55 at stock as my CPU phase is still not here

That's the plan anyway. I may get distracted by another project I'm starting :P

Boardy

take a tip from me and do the first runs with the cpu on air and stock no oc

once you are sure whats going on with the cards go back and put the cpu on phase

it can be hard to no whats going on when things dont work out and this way you wont have to worry about the cpu for now

With that cooling gear it looks like the fridge on the right is going to end up the warmest spot! With those temps, how do you plan to insulate the GPU cards?

@AstraWanderer - I have yet to make a hold down/enclosure for this, but I'm thinking somthing like Chilly1's design.

Finished the unit off completely now and fine tuning it. The 10min loaded temps leveled out jst my XDA Exec batt went a little flat so wouldn't take any more pics.

On with the show -

Hope you like it.

I'll update this again probably later with all the system spec, once I have finalized the charge.

Cheers

@ Scorchio - Cheers matey :) Is good balance isnt it lol, near perfect :P

@bazx - I thought I'd find charging and tuning it really boring and tiring but it's great fun. Watching 3 pressure guages (I have 2 high side and 1 low side guages) while releasing just a little gas in at a time.

It took me the best part of a day to get this sorted. It's running at the moment with around 9ft of cap on each evap, I may cut that down to 8.5ft I'm not sure yet as I'm pretty happy about where it is at the moment.

I was looking for around -30 no load and -15ish loaded, but we shall see. I may still go for that magic -30 and -20 yet ;)

i no just what ya mean i am at the workshop now hehe

i have ben chasing 1 degree for 2 days now

and i just got it -70.5 unloaded

*edit* just read again 9 foot of cap ?

i think i have around 5 foot ask gray he made my evap set up
