Bizzard's World of Warcraft Classic isn't Vanilla WOW

I am not sold on the premise that using the 1.12 patch means it isnt Vanilla. If you played from beta or retail release, there was a ton of pain involved. 1.12 was a stability point, both in terms of mechanically, and gameplay. Vanilla fans have been playing on private servers for years, mostly on the 1.12 patch. I have heard almost zero concern about classic being based on 1.12, other than questions about whether certain content is available at launch, or phased in linearly as it was in retail. Pretty much the biggest concern I have heard has to do with Battlenet allowing cross-faction interaction, which in this age of social media and platforms is a fairly moot point.
If the die-hards consider it Vanilla, how isnt it?

The whole point of the article is that Blizzard doesn't plan on releasing "Vanilla WOW" as an unchanged product from the original.

I did not say that 1.12 isn't vanilla WOW, I'm saying that Blizzard does not intend to release WOW classic as a low effort port and intends to modernise the game by using WOW's modern back-end.

While many will consider it a technicality, remember that this is primarily a hardware site, technical details matter and I think it is important to remember that a lot is changing under the hood in WOW Classic.

It's definitely the right decision. It should make maintaining Classic far easier for Blizz if the back end software is like Live.

Well I was an addicted WoW player from vanilla through to Wrath of the Lich King, for me the game dived with The burning crusade and a move to 25 man raiding it just did not feel epic in the same way it did, running BWL or Naxx 40, even know I remember fondly those times.
The game had become really easy and you no longer need to play with skill until Sunwell came and it felt great to have challenging encounters like Brutallus was for the healers and tanks or the Twins for me as a lock to tank.
I quit the game some 8 years ago and just recently started playing private server for Legion and despite the many bugs and issues with some of the pre legion stuff it has been so far enjoyable.
Would I go back to retail Vanilla? nah not now

it will be interesting to see how they work it considering some classes were not overly useful, pala was just a 5 minute buff machine and little else, I also don't think the community spirit still exists in wow to make the 40 man raids a thing especially once the novelty aspect runs out

Paladins were the kings of Single target healing and we always used for tank healing. You couldnt compete with them. It was a nightmare though buffing 40 people one at a time with bok/bom/bow. That is one thing I dont miss.

Oh the memories come flooding back my first char was a pala the joys of getting the pala mounts, then I level a fire mage and molten core came and fire was useless.

Wonder if they will still have the need to farm resistance gear for the different raids it kept the older dungeons still a needed thing
