BITMAIN has created a CryptoNight mining ASIC - The Antminer X3

If this is the case, we could be see a huge influx of used GPU's on the aftermarket. And eventually once the shortage of memory is better, new GPU's come back down toward the original MSRP. The SLI 1070 setup I have now is great, yet I want to upgrade my 4790K based rig to something newer. Won't do it unless the GPU situation gets better.

Problem is that a lot of CryptoNight-based currencies already plan to fork, so the impact here could be lessened a lot. Miners can also move to different currencies, though CryptoNight is popular for Vega miners.

btw many miners have vega 64 and even 56's hashing at or very near 2kh/s

Yes, but that requires a lot of extra messing around, clocking the memory higher etc possibly a custom BIOS. No matter what way you slice it the ASIC is still over 100X better with an insane hashrate per watt rating.

There are 5 different reasons floating around on why Bitmain has jacked the prices so high, below are a few theories copied from a random Antminer site via Reddit.
Bitmain jacked prices up knowing that if they can get people to buy and bitcoin continues to correct they will still be alright in the end with a massive profit.
Bitmain jacked prices up because the chips used were more expensive and also thought they could price it comparatively to the Baikal miner’s hashing rate.
Bitmain saw how many people bought the D3 and A3 and wants to see how far they can take it.
Bitmain chose this time to jack prices because it will be the very first miner for CryptoNight and they wanted to release the miner before Monero confirms a fork due to the other news of Baikal miner that was also launched recently.
Bitmain knows that people will spend their bitcoin now rather than later due to the correction. Perhaps Bitmain thinks we’re stupid? Who knows.

One thing is forsure, I can't BELIEVE that Bitmain just sold out. Someone either is VERY stupid, or very rich... OR both! LOL.

This is a total scam from Bitmain, believe me. Nobody jacks prices like this. LOL. read here https://buyantminerx3.com/2018/03/15/antminer-x3-biggest-scam-bitmains-history/ and please do not buy, unless you want to take a huge risk!!!
