BF2142 Problems - Anyone had this happen?

Well I just picked up BF2142 and was uber happy, until it wouldn't start

I can get in to the game main menu etc just fine, but when I try and start a game it gets half way done with optimizing shaders, etc and then the game just closes. That's as far as I can get.

I've tried everything... I tried downclocking cpu and gpu, updating forceware, tried using optimized forceware drivers but no luck.

Could it possibly be because I'm using XP x64? It does have that little warning before you start the game that it hasn't been tested for x64 and may not run correctly. If this is the case I might try it on Vista which I still have installed and is a 32 bit version rather than 64.

Maybe someone has already had this problem and can help me out? Thanks in advance!

Hmm, I don't think it's the fact that you're on x64 that's your problem. See 2nd to last post here, this guy got it to run fine, even smoother than 32-bit: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=200362&page=2

Edit: Well, seems EA is having some major trouble with this game. So far I've seen people saying that the vast number of people are overloading EA's servers, a Microsoft patch screwed at least something up, and having VOIP enabled can cause crashes... Links:

I just installed it under Vista and it works like a champ. Wonder what the problem could possibly be???

Update: Got it workin!

I went ahead and tried the DX9 update fix and that seemed to sort it out for me, I never got any of those messages stating that it was missing but I figured it couldnt possibly hurt to try, and it worked!

Yes it does say on the back of the box you need the most up to date version of direct x, mine was already upto date otherwise I would have probably had the same problem as you Frag.

Glad to see you got it sorted anyway.

What do you think of it, I am not to impressed so far but I havent had chance to play all the maps yet, my favourite so far is fall of berlin
