bf2

well i got it off xfire now and have played ti and TBH im not too impressed!!! i got my comp overclocked a fare bti and it struggles to cope wid it even wid my gt at 461/1.13ghz i still thinnk teh fps are laggy. The game play is ok if not a bit too much liek teh old one ie. not too many advancements in it and even on top graphical wack it does not look as aimpressive as far cry still !!!

what any one else think?

Phil

I'll download it and try it on my laptop! :D

From all accounts you will need a serious beast of a pc in order to enjoy this. People are saying unless you have 2GB of memory the pagefile.sys is being accessed constantly hence the hit on your system.

been playing this game with 1 gig memory and 3800+ overclocked to 2.8 ghz....

with dual sli 6800 ultras phill is right even i get a bit of jerking but im running 1600 by 1200 and everthing on high..........

put 1 more gig of mushkin redline in now im running 2 gig mushkin redline@230 fsb@2-2-2-5 and this game rocks............ and i meen rocks 2 gig memory makes so much diffrence now im not selling a gig and keeping it just for this game........... managed to run 2 gig memory @ 268 fsb@2-2-2-5 3.4 volts.....

was going to sell a gig until i noticed i could run 2 gig overclocked high.....

just thought i would say my 2 pence worth...... get 2 gig and u will love it.... ;)

Does anyone have any experience with overclocking 4GB of memory? I was thinking of getting a lot of ram when my 4400+ arrives...

Not too impressed with BF2 either, to be honest.

It'll sell well though, with all the hype.

Personally, I was expecting more !

It might come good with various patches etc.... (just like the original 1942).

We'll see...........

To stop the jerkiness try;

1.) Turning off/down shadow complexity

2.) Turning down draw distance

3.) Turning down terrain detail to medium

4.) Turning down AF to 2x

I know that means swallowing some pride because most of you refuse to use anything but max settings but I assure you, doing that will (on the most part) mean its lag free with 1gig of RAM and a pagefile wont be needed - its the page file that’s causing the lag people are experiencing ;)

I been using these settings all weekend on various 64man servers and not had a single problem :)

it jut provoves 1 gig aint enough any more!!!! 2gig was once an over kill but now its kinda mandatory!!

is windows or apps much quicker wid 2 gb of ram? as in justifyably quicker?

Unless you do heavy Gfx/CAD/CAM then no! :(

I know this sounds a bit complex and a bit over the top but after a chat with my Concurrent systems and Architecture design lecturer about memory management and hieracrhy in a computer system (taking linux as an example) the page file for windows usually sits on the same partition as windows - where lots of fragmentation can occur. In a linux system this is solved by a swap drive where it is purely the virtual memory - stops any fragmentation of the virtual memory. So therefore in windows i have done the same i have made a 3GB partition on my sata drive that has purely the pagefile in for windows and thats it nothing else. Did a degrag analyse on it last night and it was perfectly fine :) - i can garunte you it'll speed up virtual memory as the hdd does not need to seek for the page file as the pagefile will always be in the same place speeding up virtual memory.

That is spot on, your lecturer is correct. I studied this when I was taking my MCSE. The swap file needs to be moved to a different drive for the absolute best performance.
