Best SSD Near £100

Evening fellas.

So I'm looking for a new SSD around the £100 mark which gets me about 240-256GB. The one I'm looking at is the Crucial MX100 which is the cheapest at £75, Does anybody have any experience with these, and know of their reliability?

Any others you recommend?

Thanks

Apparently the basic ones aren't as reliable as the pro's?

Samsung drives are among the most reliable ssds on the market, but the 840 Evo has degrading reads after a few months according to some reports. That issue will be fixed with a Samsung firmware fix later this month.

I have the Crucial MX100 256GB, been using it for 4 months now with no problems. It has slower write speeds but unless you move files around a lot then write speeds aren't that important. The read speed is more important if you are using it for games and apps.

Crucial and Samsung are the most reliable you are going to get. Personally i would opt for a Crucial drive as they are cheaper and still just as good.

From personal experience you shouldn't have an issue with the Crucial drive. I have an older model (M4) and it's been running strong for nearly 2 years (touch wood).

Got an MX100 256GB myself and it's been great for me so far.

As said, the 840 Evos can be a bit dodgey, but I think a firmware update is due soon (this month). The 840 Pros are great, but quite a bit more expensive.

Been using an 840 evo for the last 6 months and it's been pretty solid, the only issues with it are stemming from my motherboard only having Nvidia controllers which the magician software isn't liking so won't let me use rapid mode. Will sort that when it comes to the rebuild.

I was after a similar thing when building JR2.0 and bought a Corsair Force LX 256GB, it has been great and looks pretty tidy but had I known Samsung 840 prices were about to fall through the floor I probably would of gone with one of those.

Can I ask a question first before I buy another SSD?

The reason I'm looking to buy is because my PC goes laggy, SPS noticed it was whilst I was downloading Shadow of Mordor and if I remember right, it does seem like it happens when I'm downloading games.

It just lags to type, open windows etc, it just did it now BUT Steam was set to run when Windows starts which also meant I need to download (automatically SoM from 30% upwards). Just disabled steam auto-start and restarted the rig and we're smooth again?

Also getting issues of CS: GO and L4D just freezing whilst loading maps, minimise to the desktop and Steam has shut down.

Could the whole lag problem be Steam?
