What are they going to be used for?

Unless they're for music producing or similar (which I'm guessing they won't be if the SP2500s are on the list) then I don't think you need to spend anywhere near that.

Just general music listening, playing games and watching movies/TV shows, the SP2500s are around £160.

If i dont need to spend that much what would be a good set ?

Are you looking for bookshelf speakers only or a full 2.1 system? If you're after a 2.1 system, the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 is probably the best there is as far as I'm concerned.

I'd say you'd be better with good quality stereo speakers over 2.1 or 5.1.

Either the one of the microlab sets would be great.
If you do want to spend a little more, maybe get an external amp and proper speakers.

Ya gotta have a sub so I still say 2.1 is the way to go. I think those Klipsch are pretty scarce in the UK so check out the Corsair SP2500's. I like those because they have big amps and nice sized midrange drivers and that'll mean better sound quality over a puny amp and 2" speakers.

I looked at a few reviews of the SP2500 and they seemed good, one even used the same sound card i have, plus they are corsair which would match alot of my build ( i realize that doesnt really matter but still)

I've got some of the SP2500's here and by god they make the room bounce !. neighbours don't like us for it. but we love it. the clarity is epic. honestly like standing in a night club.
